Buy PSPgo, get LittleBigPlanet or Assassin's Creed free photo

SCEA today announced that it would be doing something it should have done at launch -- it's going to offer some sort of reason to buy a PSPgo. Yes, even though Europe got incentives out the arse, North America has only just been offered something in return for purchasing the useless thing -- either LittleBigPlanet PSP or Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines.

Anybody who buys a PSPgo between now and March 21 will get a code that they can redeem for one of the two games. Consumers will have until March 31 to redeem the code, before they are null and void. So, there is finally a reason to own a PSPgo, but to be honest you'd still be better off with a 3000 and a secondhand UMD of either title.

PSP in-game promotion code available now [PlayStation Blog]

OR you could buy a PSP-3000 and both games for still less money than a PSPgo.

What janoDX said.

PSPgo: big commercial failure or biggest commercial failure?

That's a good way to sell the PSPGo! Get a crappy system with one game you can buy for $30.

@SquawkDerby: They were probably confident people would snatch their product up, obviously it failed. And now since they're getting low sales, they're getting desperate it seems.

With what has been released on the PSN as of late, I would NEVER advise anyone to grab one of these things even with a free game, and I love free stuff.

To me the potential is there, it could be an amazing piece of hardware, but the software choice on PSN is shockingly bad, especially their ps1 section. Combined with overpricing of a lot of the games that are available, this is about as bad as things can get.

Or, a third option, no one could buy a PSPGo.

But still the PSPGo could go away.

So... for those of us who bought one when it launched we only get 5 Rockband songs? ... great.

I almost picked one up since I love the idea of having a memory card full of ps1 classics, bit it was hard to give up my umds, so I just bought an 8gb memory stick for $30 instead.

They should've offered a free PSPGo with every purchase of LittleBigPlanet or Assassin's Creed.. just saying.

Only way to sell those games, I suppose.

Neither of those game
is Lumines. I hate to sound like I'm beating a dead horse but Lumines on the PSP was a platform defining experience. Like Pokemon on the GBA or Tetris on the Gameboy.

Without Lumines on the PSp almost the entire library feels like a laundry list of ports. Granted lumines has been potted to three other consoles, I think anyone with half a brain knows the original game is so fantastically better by comparison.

No Lumines = PSPgo permanent-fail.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Sega Master System was doing this, when they were losing badly to NES. First you got Double Dragon free. Then it was Reggie Jackson Baseball. Ah memories.

Drop the price of the PSPGo to $150 and it will sell like hotcakes.

If Sony really want to sell the PSP Go, they'll have to lower the price to at least $150 and not one, but at least three good games for free. Good games like LBP, not like AC: Bloodlines, IMO

Totally agree.

Even WITH the free game (at MSRP of $40), you're still paying $210, which is $30 more than a PSP 3000.

The only saving grace here is that SOME places have been putting the PSPgo on sale for $200.

Otherwise, here's a checklist of things that need to be addressed in the PSPgo before anyone should buy it:

--Stupidly high price
--Unreliable, outdated wireless (seriously still wireless-b)
--Ridiculously low capacity battery (either expand it, or let us swap 'em out)
--Lack of incentive to buy download versions of games

Tell Sony that this first model was shit by not buying it. If they address most of these issues, then we might have an awesome machine here.

Here's hoping the PSPgo2 is better. I seriously am interested in what they're TRYING to sell. Even if they're doing a piss poor job of getting it right.

Idea for a short story: Guy wants to sell overpriced systems, tries sales gimmick. Where do I come up with this stuff? I amaze even myself.

That's a nice way for Sony to say "fuck you" to early adopters.

Chances are this will apply to everyone who bought a PSPGo, just as the previous reward schemes have worked.

As expensive as it is, I've known some folk get 4-5 free games just by buying the PSPGo... that brings the price difference down to about £30-50, which isn't bad for a new bit of shiny kit.

A few weekends ago there was a kid and his mom behind me at Best Buy, the register behind me that is. Kid had to be at least 15 years old. He was buying a PSP Go, and some NBA game on UMD. They left before I could say anything, but I was grinning so damn much, wishing I could be there to see his face when he realizes he can't play that shiny new UMD game in his shitty PSP Go.
