According to an alleged fan survey, BioWare and Electronic Arts are considering using in-game Mass Effect 2 bonuses to encourage the purchase of its other big RPG, Dragon Age: Origins. The survey asks players what kind of incentives would make them most likely to purchage Dragon Age, and gives a selection of examples.
Suggestions for bonus content include a $5 rebate on Mass Effect 2, exclusive weaponry, custom skins, a brand new character and a playable demo. It's not often that the purchase of one game could affect the gameplay content of a completely separate title, but if this glimpse into BioWare's mind leads to a real marketing stunt, then it's something we're about to see.
Take a look at the survey segment below and see if any of that content catches your eye. Would Mass Effect 2 goodies make you more likely to buy Dragon Age: Origins?
[Thanks, Clark]

So when does Dragon Age come out?
I'm less inclined to point a finger at Bioware as the bad guy in this one as this sounds much more like a greedy money monger EA investigation than something Bioware would consider tasteful (but then I could be wrong there)
[You're welcome, Jim]
I can see where this sort of thing is a potential slippery slope, but in this case, I don't see too big an issue with it. I just wish that buying Dragon Age meant you'd get Dragon Age content, as I have no desire to ever play another Mass Effect for as long as I live.
Likewise, I'd assume this was EA's idea.
Only if Dragon Age Origins is a good game.
Your lack of taste on the Mass Effect front aside, I get that a cross genre bonus for purchase would not make much sense (even for idiot marketing types) and I doubt we would ever see something like that. I don't really see this as being a huge deal either, but that really depends a LOT on what additional content they offer. I could care less about a stupid skin or weapon (non-uber), but a bonus mission might just tick me off a bit.
I want to play Mass Effect 2. But I want to play a complete version of it. Or at least as complete as I can get it. I'm a PS3 owner with no iPhone so I accept that I won't be getting the exclusive stuff that comes with the original and the iPhone game. It would be one thing if this was all DLC where I know I could get it at a later time when I have a source of revenue. But to give the game exclusive content for another game that I really want to play seems rather unfair, espicially to the financially challenged such as myself.
If I try to buy it used, I don't get the bonus content. It also discourages from renting the game. And who says how long this DLC will stay on shelves with the game. What if the bonus content doesn't come with the game anymore by the time I finally find a job? Perhaps this is all pre-order only crap screwing me even further? To me, it's forcing me to make a decision in a certain time frame if I want as 100% of a Mass Effect 2 game as I can get. That's discouraging to me and makes me feel like I'm being backed into a corner and being forced to make a purchase.
High fives all around!
I'm planning on getting 'em both anyways, so by all means BioWare, give me extra shit. I'm all for it.
This.
Like I needed to be any more excited for these games.
1. Bioware sucks, I'm not buying either one.
2. Free stuff is bad, game companies never do anything good. IT'S A TRAP!
3. A bonus for buying a game from a quality developer that I was going to buy anywhere? That's a nice surpise.
You selected : 3.
