Buy 360 HD-DVD player from Best Buy, get Heroes and seven other HD-DVDs free photo

Raise your hand if you want to take Best Buy for a ride! The big box retailer are currently offering a free copy of Heroes: Season 1 on HD-DVD when you purchase the Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on. Additionally, they're also offering seven free HD-DVDs (two in the store, five by mail) with the purchase of any HD-DVD player. Hey, the Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on is an HD-DVD player!

Twesterm writes:

Since that second deal says any you can put these two deals together though they won’t like it. I got it to work today by doing a moderate amount of bitching and a call to 1-888-Best-Buy and they had to honor it.

To sum up, that's $179.99 for an Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on with a free boxed set of televisions most popular show, as well as seven other free HD-DVDs. Wait, make that eight free HD-DVDs -- the add-on still ships with Peter Jackson's King Kong. This is one deal that I think a "moderate amount of bitching" might be worth.

[Thanks twesterm and skankerzero!]

Just one quick addition: it's not two more additional HD-DVD's by mail, it's any HD-DVD in store under $35 so I got Transformers Collector's Edition and Hot Fuzz. :-D

Anyone know which HD-DVD's we're allowed to pick from? Last time I checked they were all balls.

So are the 5 free by mail through Best Buy count as the 5 free ones you get from the HD-DVD counsel for buying any hd-dvd player? Either way that is a sweet deal.

it's a good deal, but I'm not buying one. I still think Blu Ray will win in the end. Eventually, when MGS4 comes out and FF13, the PS3 will still sell alot of consoles. Eventually. Then the Blu Ray will win. Right now, it doesn't matter, as DVD is still king in terms of popularity. My mom just found out about Blu-Ray a week ago, when she stopped by my house to drop off some fucking pot roast.MMMM that shit was good, thanks mom

I like how you said MGS and Final Fantasy will make Blu-Ray the winner. We all know those who want Gilmore Girls collectors in HD are hardcore Solid Snake fans as well.

This is such a good deal, but I don't know about it. The format war is bullshit. I may buy on the basis of it costing $75 with that Heroes thrown in.

Am I the only one that thinks HD movies/TV are worthless for the quality increase they offer? The majority of movies can't even see a significant benefit from the format, since it requires a lot of action and special effects for anyone to care.

@Wedge, no you're not, a few extra pixels doesn't make the story any more enjoyable or the acting any better.

However, if you bought lets say 7 new release DVDs, average that out to $20 - 25 a piece, that still comes out to $140 - $175, which is worth more than what you paid for the HD-DVD player.

Well apparently you can't do this online. Just tried to do it and it wouldn't even give the Heroes set for free...
Bullshit in-store only garbage.

Went to Best Buy to get Heroes and the 7 free movies ,but I was told by the workers that the XBOX 360 HD DVD PLAYER is not consider a HD player but an XBOX accessories. I wasn't able to get the two free movies in the store. I called the 1800# and they told me the same thing. So you can only get Heroes and the 5 free mail in movies.

@EM3-

Yeah, I had the same thing happen. We went round and round, and the lady actually told me "that's double-dipping. You can't double-dip." Sure.

I wasn't that salty though, cause a)it's Heroes for free and b)I got my HD-DVD add-on eight days ago but I still got the free Heroes deal, since I had my receipt.

To add to your bitch fests tomorrow, the 360 HD DVD Player is made by Toshiba, so it should technically still fall under that offer.

If you are at all interested in the HD-DVD format and you have a Xbox 360, this is an awesome deal... Unless of course you don't really like Heroes that much...

not worth it. someone would have to pay me to watch heroes again. after the abysmal season 1 ending, i quit the show. then the season 2 opener was pretty much full of suck.

I bought my 360 HD DVD player yesterday, and found out about this today. I went back to Best Buy, brought the print AD and my receipt with me, and there was nothing they could do about it. They HAVE to honor the print AD. I was in and out of there in less than 10 minutes. With 2 new HD DVD movies for an HD DVD player I got YESTERDAY!

I went to Best Buy and got the whole deal, the heroes dvd, the king kong pack in, the two free movies and will get the 5 by mail. It just looks like it depends on your debate skills and the manager you get.

There's a small trick that might help get you the two free HD-DVD's in-store. Tell a manager that you were told at another Best Buy that the Xbox HD-DVD player would allow you to get 7 movies. They'll generally honor things like that to keep customers from becoming disappointed.
Burnt Meatloaf's Avatar - Comment posted on 10/23/2007 03:01

Stores that honor that are stupid. The XBox add-on is not a player, it's a disc drive that sends encoded data to the XBox for playing. The XBox 360 is the actual player. By this same logic, you could buy any HD-DVD disc drive for your PC and cash in on the offer, too.

Now, if you buy the XBox 360 AND the HD-DVD add-on... well, that's different.

Did they switch the ad up to say you have to buy a certain HDDVD player now to get the 2 free HDDVDs, because I am not seeing that in the ad anywhere?

Where was the second offer (bottom 7 free) originally from? Ive checked my local Best Buy weekly ad and didnt see it printed there. Im just trying to make sure the 2 free instantly in store is a valid offer (tasty 300 and transformers). Thanks

@bbysknnr6 & usaevo8

In my local Best Buy AD it was on Page 20 that states ANY HD DVD Player. Because there are no other stipulations listed on the AD most of the Best Buys should honor the deal. Like I said earlier it worked for me.

I just came back from my local(West Hollywood) Best Buy and picked myself up the HD-DVD add-on, Heroes: Season 1, 300, Transformers and the rebate for 5 more movies free. So basically NINE(King Kong is still being bundled) free HD-DVD's. Woot.

I went and they wouldn't let me get the 2 free from the store, so I brought the heros season to walmart and returned it for a gift card that got me 4 more hd dvds. So with those 4, King Kong, and the 5 from the mail in rebate I got 10 hd dvds and the player for $180. Not bad at all.

I went my local Best Buy (Midtown Manhattan) and the dumb as a brick salesgirl, a floor associate, and a manager all tried to tell me I couldn't get the offer. Bullshit I said, and called customer relations. She was super helpful and called the store manager to tell him they had to honor the ad (which she told me was actually supposed to only be for Toshiba models but due to the misprint they had to honor it. Someone got fired for that I'm sure).
I ended up getting the deal as well as a 50 dollar gift card as an apology for the poor store service!
So I got the whole deal for basically 130 dollars.

I went in expecting to have to do some hardcore bitching, and I wasted a couple minutes explaining the ad to the cashier. She said, "Let's just ring it up and see what happens."

It's in the computer at my store in Montgomery, AL, so it's probably in all of them. Everything was automatic. Soooo sexy. :p

Yeah, in the store here in Las Vegas, as well. Same deal, expected all kinds of drama, and everything rang up without a problem. Mmm Children of Men and 2001.

Poor legitimate Heroes Season 1 DVD ebay sellers.
