Hey, I kind of liked that Burnout Paradise game! Those Criterion Games chaps made a mighty fine thing, and while I like the content that shipped with the disc, I wouldn't mind a bit more.

They've already revealed at least one new vehicle (see the "Dust Storm" in the video above), and dropped hints about new "island" areas. Two questions remain: when are we getting the new content how much is it going to cost? Criterion's Alex Ward decided to (sort of) answer that second question in a random reply on the developer's official message boards.

"I think we'll make you work for some of these," he writes, referring to the game's new cars, before he adds. "And one more thing, the islands will all be FREE."

Oh, he did not just drop the naughty four-letter "f" bomb, did he? For an Electronic Arts published game, no less. Free sounds like a pretty amazing deal to me, but I do wonder how long they'll be able to keep up any steady stream of free content before they realize they have to start paying their electric bill. But until their landlord turns off their hot water, keep it coming!

Free content is always good. Free content for quality titles is incredible. I really should pick this game up, but damn I don't have the time to play.

EA: "Wait, did you hear 'Free'? Noo..no...we meant 'Fee'!"

EA really wants us to like them don't they? Well we don't, so we'll take our free islands and bid you farewell.

Wow, I use to adore Activision over EA a few years back. I mean, Activision had the fresh Tony Hawk games, and EA was just pushing a annual sport games and pay-to-cheat downloads.

Then something happened. Activision soon became that whore or a company, and EA, started buying a few companies here and there, but started releasing quality stuff in my eyes.

Whatever, free is always good.

Yeah EA has definatley shaped it up over the last year for me. I mean Rock Band seems like "good" and Guitar Hero seems "evil". Tony Hawk is becoming the evil franchise and Skate is really cool.

So I dont know whats going on anymore.

I wonder if this is PS3 only. Microsoft have a bit of a stick up their ass when it comes to free content.

@Boolean

I totally agree about Microsoft.

When people pay for their online services, I don't see why Microsoft can't let the developers do as they wish.

Hopefully they change their policies with this one. (highly unlikely)

I guess MS likes the % kickback per XBL purchase or something (assuming it operates that way, don't see why it wouldn't, and I am too lazy to research).

Free is good. It helps convince me to buy games after they've been out a while. This dropkick pack is making me really consider gh3 for ps3, since I own it on ps2 due to controller issues...

If they are giving away this download for free, it'll give me more incentive to buy the game, just to award the publisher and the team behind the game.

One of the earlier burnout maps showed an airport. One DLC is probably that.

*Sigh*, you folks have such short memories. I believe it was about a month ago that I read an article about how DLC would allow people to see the new areas that are available, but there would be a fee to actually DO anything on them. SO, while the ISLANDS might be free, there still might be some hidden costs there. Don't get yer panties all in a bunch yet, my friends...

@ruiner: Yea I always suspected that word from THE DEVELOPMENT TEAM was always so shifty and wrong. That was nearly a month ago and by now they must have thought whats the point in just letting people see it, to make it a cohesive online experience we may as well just put it out for free?.

you must now pay 800 MS points at a toll booth before you go onto/off the island. unless you can find a way to jump to the island, then it will only cost you 400 MS points.

Would be nice if all or if not the majority of DLC was free.

As for Burnout Paradise, unfortunately, due to the open world changes in the game, I didn't buy this one.

I pray to god they get back to what Burnout previously was, as I feel intergrating the online game into the open world has spoiled a good series. There just seems to be no line, between single and multiplayer.

Anyways, fairplay to those who want it. Can't be a freedee deal.
