In news that might make my Podcastle co-host (and rampant Halo fanboy/CoD4 hater) Wardrox rip his lungs out in disgust, Halo developer Bungie has admitted that they could learn a thing or two from Infinity Ward's critically acclaimed Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
We have a lot to learn from their success too, they did some very innovative things to keep people going and their experience-rewards system was something that we paid a lot of attention to... I think it's a great game and single player obviously is fantastic... They did a hell of a job with their set pieces, of scripting certain moments that they were really sure the player was going to actually see and experience first hand. The way that they use those moments to craft the player experience... Halo has a lot to learn from.
This is stuff I like to see -- a developer being gracious and humble enough to praise another team's work and admit that some aspects may even be superior. The likes of Itagaki have a lot to learn from Bungie, in that respect. Jolly good show.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
On a side note, I was having a friendly argument with someone about religion the other day, and they brought up that Christianity is the most popular so it must be good.
I said "Well, Halo is the most popular FPS at the moment, does that make it the best FPS ever?"
And they didn't say anything for a bit, and tried to turn the tables on to me and said "But you don't even play FPS games! You're an atheist!"
...wot?
I think the biggest thing that Halo missed in its campaign was the feeling of being in the middle of a war. In CoD2 and CoD4 (the only games in the series I've played), I really felt like I was in the middle of a warzone. In Halo 3 I was supposed to "finish the fight," but I never really remembered a war beginning. I always just felt like I was some guy roaming around on foreign planets sniping aliens in the face. The epic scale and sense of urgency present in CoD titles is just absent in Halo games.
HAHAHAHAHA!! Oh poor Wardrox =D
Like others have said, kudos to Bungie for manning-up. It seems like they really want to make the best game they possibly can instead of simply cashing in on rehash after rehash, something I was beginning to fear after the huge letdown that was H3. Here's hoping they can up the ante with their next game.
HarassmentPanda, you're absolutely right about the lack of a "warzone" vibe with Halo 3's atmosphere. I never really considered that. Aside from a couple parts where you load into warthogs with other marines, or something like that, I didn't get that feeling at all in the game.
I like they are abing nice. But the two FPS are very, very different and not many improvements could translate across sucessfully.
Hitman actual, this is Hitman two-one. No not copy, need a fire mission on the Pillar of Light, over.
Hitman two-one, this is Hitman actual. What the fuck is a Pillar of Light.. oh shit hang onm we have an RPG team on the east ridge, range 200, ROE clears us for targeting, engage!
Cool, guess I'll be avoiding it then.
But if I have to shout "Fucking Martyrdom!" in a Halo match, my screams of anguish will ignite the world on fire.
Puh-Leezz!
C0D4 was awesome but after beating single player and logging 40 or so hours in multi I got bored, real bored.
