Bungie has recently expressed its concern over the fact that a number of people who buy Halo don't know of the company behind it. This is pretty natural, since Halo has a huge fanbase encompassing a good percentage of non-hardcore gamers who don't really care about the industry beyond the spartan lasers.
"Not everyone that buys Halo knows what Bungie is," stated Bungie's community leader Brian Jarrard. "We want to convert Halo fans into Bungie fans and so we'll take them with us when we do the next game."
Bungie's next game is said to be "totally different" from Halo so it's going to be interesting to see how successful it is next to the Master Chief-led videogame flagship. While hardcore fans know of Bungie and will likely be aware of its next project, will the masses of Halo lovers be more tuned in to the developer's upcoming projects?
How much of the Halo fanbase do you think Bungie can retain? Will its next game stand a chance at being just as successful as the series that put it on the map, or will the majority of fans need to see Master Chief on the cover to want it? Time will tell, but feel free to use our humble page to speculate your grubby little hearts out.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Gnop! 2, baby.
also, they might want to have a little icon of master chief in that text box, just to catch people's attention as they browse the game stores.
Look what good George Lucas fame did...he got lucky with Episode 4, then was allowed to crap all over Episodes 1-3 just because he's George Lucas.
I think Bungie should be saying, "Our next project will rock so hard...you won't even remember Halo"
The only problem with this is we'll get 2 questions in return:
"So it's not Halo 4?"
"When's the next Halo coming out?"
Fucking college town. Oh well.
Woo!
Jamal's Ice Cream Parlor
Coming soon to all home video game consoles and PC.
In fact, I hope they DON'T put "from the makers of Halo" on their next game.
Bungie's a good bunch of people, so I'll definitely keep an eye on them.
I completely agree.
If the game is good enough they need not worry about carrying over fans.
Even though I don't have a 360 and therefore am not as attached to Bungie as I was in the original XBox days, I still have a great fondness for them (the staff and dudes there are awesome), and I'm really happy they're part of that special mold that doesn't want to milk a series to death, and want to try something new. Good luck Bungie--my ears go wherever Martin O'Donnell goes.
=)
Um, actually, I think most people disliked Halo 2 because the campaign wasn't as good as Halo 1. It's got good parts in it, but it's the weak point in the series, in my opinion.
With that being said, they have always made great games and their next title will be great. The problem is, now that they are done with Halo, they will have a hard time dealing with the HALO ONLY fans who will criticize their next title purely because it is not a Halo game.
I think their next title will be generally well received by the public, if it ends up being a trilogy I could see the first one not selling as well as Halo 3 of course but as they build up their fanbase with their new game, it will start doing really well reguardless.
I think Bungie may steer away from FPS in their next title, they may go back to a Myth style game? Maybe a third person like Oni?
Ill buy the next bungie game for sure. Theyve proved to me that they are able to make some pretty fine games for both single and multi-player, and i look forward to whats next.
