Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

You gotta love hype and its firm place within the video game industry. Well, at least I do. It keeps things fresh and exciting and also keeps me away from writing for a-hole companies. Anyway, back on topic: It appears as if Bungie is all set to release some major and much-anticipated Halo 3 news very soon -- next week in fact. Here's the news via 1UP:

Frankie at Bungie is quick to point out that news on the long-anticipated Halo 3 public beta will be coming "fairly soon," so temper expectations in that area, as that's probably not on the horizon for a few weeks yet. Between now and the beta, Bungie will be distributing a new behind-the-scenes video with footage sucked from the Alpha version of the game -- the multiplayer beta will actually be based on the more advanced, more complete Beta.

What's mysterious, however, is the note Frankie leaves the latest update on:

"So yeah. Big changes coming. Big changes and big news. Next week [meaning this week, as the update went live last Friday] is going to be significant.

You're a mean one, Mr. Bungie.

Any guesses? If it's anything less than a firm beta announcement, then I think it's safe to say we will all be disappointed.

I wonder if Niero is willing to hire Master Chief after all is said and done?

I mean, does Master Chief hate Nintendo as much as Summa does?
I would think not...

I still remember the firestorm that was when your undoing at Jockstick came to fruition. Nothing against them personally (I like their articles), but you seem to be much better off here.

Sounds like a Win/Win sitution to me. The fledgling Destructoid site gained a big name journalist, and you gained the pleasure of writing for a group of fans that aren't so damn serious all the time.

They are pulling a Warhawk and it will be online only and you can either buy it or download it!!!

and Snaileb...Samus Aran wouldn't go below herself and get with Master Chief!

Summa: You made me stay up all night for that announcement. (In the UK, I think it was a bout 5 or 6 in the morning it was posted). It was worth it for the all the speculation and the reactions in the comments though.

Halo 3: I personally don't care about any announcement other than a release date. I'm not interested in playing beta versions of games.

I agree comrade. It was one of the best nights I've ever experienced as far as gamers coming together in one place and just speculating things. I'm sure AOL Joystiq loved the traffic boost.

@velcroman

I'm not sure what you mean by "90% of Halo 3 will be answered", but Bungie is sure to keep a few big new things under wraps even after the Beta is out (Single player campaign?). Supposedly the beta will include only a couple of multiplayer maps and one gametype, so that seems to leave room for a lot of "surprises".

This kind of shit pisses me off, though. Bungie either heavily overestimates their fans' reaction to mediocre news or is blatantly building up hype for no reason at all. I tend to think that it's a combination of the two, but as Summa said, anything less than a firm Beta announcement is going to be disappointing. And if it's some bullshit about profiling the Scorpion tank or some ridiculous shit like that, I might just smash my computer.

My guess: They nerfed the brute shot. Those bastards!

Seriously, it's not going to be about the beta. It's going to be a new vidoc. He practically admits as much in the update.

I mean 90% because we'll learn about the level designs, the controls, the weapons, the matchmaking, etc. All the will be left is the surprises that will be in the storyline.

Halo 3 will come divided in stages that will be bundled with several other crappy games (a la crackdown) and you must buy them all to have access to the final stage that will cost 4000 MS points (now u know the reason of that card).
==
Halo 3 on Wii. DS next year. PS3 never.
==
Will support Guitar Hero guitar.
==
Will have as the final boss Brumak from Gears of War. You see in GoW you never fight him so it must be destroyed. By someone somehow.
==
Master Chief is not a robot. Just a girl looking dude with amnesia hence the voice in Dead or Alive 4.
==
the "a**hole button" refer literally to the hole in the ass of people. More details to follow.
==
A Brute on Brute sex scene.

A Grunt on Brute sex scene.

What I really want is a Smash Bros type game made by Team Ninja that features characters from halo, gears of war, fable, dead or alive, Viva Piņata, Jade Empire, and other IP. With new characters and stages as DLC... If I could hire some koreans to develop it using 2d handdrawn and a Mugen style program... I would definetly recieve a lot of cease end desist letters...

Man, if they release screenshots and movies of the alpha stage, people are going to be disappointed, since alpha shots are usually just placeholder graphics and will be updated eventually. It'll be Too Human @ E3 '06 all over again: a product that will be good when it's released, but is showcased poorly.

They'll announce that it still doesn't have a real ending and that the weapons and gameplay still suck. Lack of progress FTL.
