Halo studio Bungie has been keeping the blog fires stoked lately with the return of its "Superintendent" viral marketing campaign. Over on the official site, a counter has been ticking away to 10am EST today. That was ages ago and I've been sat here looking at a page that says "rebooting" for ages.

However, after wasting more time than I'm at liberty to spend, the veil has finally been lifted and unveiled ... a teaser trailer for some Halo expansion. Watch above for the somewhat unrevealing reveal.

Not really much to report after all the faffing around. Still, Halo fans get more Halo. That's good for them.

You gotta do more than just watch the video. This is Bungie, there's more info in that video than one glance can show.

Oh yes, I almost forgot. Peeps are saying its a new campaign experience but probably based on something called the New Mombassa battles or some shit I have no idea about.

In the books I hear.

Well its probably a continuation of the Halo 3 storyline. My guess is that the 'prepare to drop' line is a reference to Cortana waking up Master Chief as their ship drops onto that planet in the Legendary Ending. Not to mention the references of this 'superintendand' make me believe its a unearthly planet.

I doubt it's a continuation. The city in the video is New Mombasa, which got blown to shit in Halo 2.

I'm personally excited, even though the Halo series is getting a little played out. I guess we who still play this series should be a little happy at the fact that Bungie seems to be releasing something every now an then.

It's obviously a new patch to prevent your typical homophobic, puberty hitting, pimple-face, racial slurring, gang banging wiggers on LIVE from playing using face recognition via the LIVE vision cam.

I'm confused...this doesn't look like halo 3 engine...but whatever. I'm honestly not that excited for this because Halo 2 and 3 campaigns were mediocre. Although if they put alot of love into the campaign i'm sure it would be really good.

Its a CG trailer. That means not in game.

Also, I guess Bungie's idea of a new game are different than mine.

I'm more inclined to think its Master Chief dumping himself on some new world. Which would make sense.

I dunno, I told myself I wouldnt get interested and now I kind of am so we'll see. But since the first thing I thought when I saw "Danger: Flood Zone" was of those god awful flood levels in every game I hope that's not what we end up playing. A Halo game almost exclusively fighting the flood. Eeeewwww.

I doubt this has anything to do with Master Chief. My guess from all the clues is that you'll be playing an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper (those bad ass looking marines in all black with the full helmets) thus the DROP pods from space, and the line "Prepare to DROP". And judging from the Xbox LIVE tag as oppose to just the plain Xbox tag, and teh fact that ODSTs don't work alone, and the recent info that this was a new "campaign experience", I'd say it's an online co-op campaign expansion which takes place on Earth and will mostly deal with the Flood (which was probably the first things in the trailer which dropped from the sky and decimated the city).

Sound good?

ok. RESUME HALO HATE MACHINE

bmdubya at 09/25/2008 11:36
Yeah, what Guitar Atomik said. This is definitely centered around the ODST.

The ship in the picture is exactly the way they described it in the book. I'm excited. Hell's Jumpers FTW!

ODST Tactical Shooter. I'm calling it.
GnappyAssassin's Avatar
GnappyAssassin at 09/25/2008 12:08
It's a campaign expansion taking place near an orbital elevator, probably on Earth. That's because the only orbital elevators that are ever referenced in the Halo Universe are the one over New Mombassa that the Covenant blew to shit, the one over Havana that Blue Team blew to shit, and the one over Harvest that everyone blew to shit. Considering there's water in the video and land on either side, I'm going to take a wild guess and say it's on Earth in New Mombassa. The pods are ODST drop pods, and the fact that the elevator is still up suggests that this is before the covenant blew everything to shit. That leads me to believe that we get to see what went down in Africa before Master Chief showed up in Halo 2.
GnappyAssassin's Avatar
GnappyAssassin at 09/25/2008 12:10
Oh- and I don't think it will have to do with the flood if it's in that time frame.
GeneralWong's Avatar
GeneralWong at 09/25/2008 12:12
I remember Bungie saying many moons ago, "There will be more HALO games, although they won't feature Master Chief as the main character". ODST is obviously what there going to use, seeing as the usual marines are a bunch of useless wankers. Here's hoping to a Left4Dead kind of experience in the HALO universe. Hopefully not the flood though, there proper fucking annoying. If I have to get a face full of crabs when I shoot them fat fucking ones then Im gonna sticky grenade my hole family.
GuitarAtomik's Avatar
GuitarAtomik at 09/25/2008 12:13
@ GnappyAssassin
It's definitely in New Mombassa. In one of those shots of the decimated city there's a sign near the top left that reads "City of New Mombassa". I'd have to agree with the time-line stuff too.
GeneralWong's Avatar
GeneralWong at 09/25/2008 12:14
PS - Is GnappyAssassin Master Chief in disguise? I call it! He seems to know a awful lot about HALO leading me to believe that he has experienced the events first hand in one way or another...

*walks through the mud of trendy Halo hate*

Oh, God. I made it through. Hooray!

Uh, but yes. I'm personally excited, especially if what GuitarAtomik said comes true.

I hate teaser trailers though. We waited a long time to be teased again. This thing (like everything Bungie does) raised more questions than it did answers. At least it shed some light and it's not just a few new maps.

There's this "expansion," new maps, and a rumored level editor. This fall should be rad for Halo fans, and I'm glad they haven't abandoned it. We just had a title update and a matchmaking overhaul as well.

In one of their weird viral thingies on their site, there's the line, “Didn’t think you S1 types ever left your cave.” S1? Spartan 1? I don't know.

I bet it's either a Helljumper expansion or an expansion playing as another Spartan. Either way, that sounds reminiscent of the Half-Life expansions, and I like that.
GuitarAtomik's Avatar
GuitarAtomik at 09/25/2008 14:06
@Sharpless

S1 = Section 1 of the ONI

Section One

The main intelligence-gathering section, and the foremost provider of electronic intelligence for the UNSC. Covenant ship movements and force deployment, evacuation notices for colonies, deletion of data for secrecy purposes, and much more are all done by Section 1.

Considering the city is being evacuated and they would most likely be in charge of putting together and deploying something like the ODSTs, I'm pretty sure that was in reference to that.

...I am really in to this stuff.
