Bungie might not be done with Halo after Halo: Reach photo

Bungie’s Lars Bakken crushed hearts and set the Internet on fire when he told IGN that Halo: Reach would be the studio’s last Halo title. His July statement lacked optimism, which is a quality that is being displayed by Bungie PR director Brian Jarrard in regards to the studio and the Halo franchise. In short, Jarrard believes Bungie may or may not be done with Halo after Reach. Time will tell, we suppose.

"The clarification is we just don't know at this point. I'm not really able to speculate on what we're going to do after Reach,” Jarrard told VideoGamer when asked to clarify Bakken’s comments.

“I wouldn't confirm or deny at this point. We're really excited to get Reach out the door. Beyond that, we're not at liberty to say right now what's next.”

"I think there's a lot of work just to get Reach done between now and next fall,” he added. “At that point anything's possible. We're going to keep looking at making the games we want to make. Maybe that's Halo. Maybe it's not. We'll have to wait and see."

Call me crazy, but I don’t think Bungie will ever be done with Halo. A Halo without Bungie is like having a cup of oatmeal without salt, a pair of scissors without rubber grips, or a bubble bath without a Michael Jackson casette. These things need each other to rock proper-like.

It's about time for Halo to die, and to make a spin off.

Between now and next fall? I don't remember them announcing that Halo:Reach was out next fall?
Then again, I could be just oblivious. Probably going to be out Sept25th as usual.

And Bungie will be practically forced into another Halo by MS. I don't think that MS want to lose one of their cash-cows THAT easily.

I really hope Halo won't die anytime soon.
I envy all those who contributed to the Halo canon, and darn it, I wanna be one of them (I was hoping to make the first anime ;-;)

What was that? Microsoft letting the only franchise pulling it along die? bahhhh, they know that they can still milk money out of us. As for Bungie..... good luck making a shooter game that wont be compared to halo.

Bungie wouldn't do well out side of halo. Thats what they've done and what people know them for, if they made another game everyone would compare it to halo. Bungie and Halo will go on for years to come.

As long as the Halo games stay in good quality (which they have) and dont turn into piss poor titles that make me think of Timesplitters, then I dont really care.

I really like Halo a lot, but like everyone else, I'm anxious to see what else Bungie can do. Come on guys, did anyone REALLY think Halo would be laid to rest after Reach? That would be idiotic in every sense of the word.

Not to mention, to call them "pathetic" or think they're a bad company simply because they stick with what works is really overreacting...

Also, here's a list of companies that need to stop milking their franchises, but nobody seems to bother mentioning them.

Square and Final Fantasy. How many games, including spin-offs, now? It has to be around two dozen.

Activision and all games that end in "Hero". At least seven games just this year.

Infinity Ward/Treyarch/Activision and the Call of Duty games. Seriously, they've been putting out one a year. It's getting ridiculous.

EA and every single one of their sports game franchises. Everybody knows what I'm talking about here.

Nintendo and Mario, Legend of Zelda, and Metroid. Seriously.

Everyone also seems to forget about Marathon, Myth, and Oni for some reason.

If your don't like the fucking games then don't buy them. Why should a company stop making what makes them money? Why do you even care?
Some days this site is like an old womans hairdresser where a bunch of annoying moaning faced bags moan for the sake of moaning.
*whine* Make a diff game Square...you do, umm.
*whine* Stop making CoD Infinity Ward even though everyone loves it and it gets better everytime
*whine* Make a diff game Bungie....RTS don't count cause its got Halo in the title and I like to cry like a little girl.
And so on and so on

Seriously, ration, after the number of fan service games Nintendo keeps pumping out, you don't think they're milking those two? I actually don't think they need to stop, though. I was demonstrating that, if people were complaining about Bungie and Halo, they should be complaining about those other franchises.

@ Kris S - Not really a significant point, but Bungie actually didn't make the abomination known as Halo Wars, not sure if you knew that or not.

What? There were only three TimeSplitters titles, the first two of which were amazing.

The third wasn't awful either.

I don't begrudge any franchise (Mario, MGS, Halo, whatever) from making further titles as long as they continue their initial high standards of quality and relevance. Once that quality and relevance is lost from the franchise (Sonic being a good example) then they should drastically rethink about making another title.
Monte's Avatar - Comment posted on 08/28/2009 04:36

I'd rather see Bungie try something NEW... Really, Bungie has done nothing but ride the Halo train for like the past 8 years... By all means, Bungie seems like one hit wonder; they made one successful game and have been riding that train ever since... would be nice for them to prove that wrong.

And i think the same for a few other companies aswell

"Everyone also seems to forget about Marathon, Myth, and Oni for some reason."
I guess because Bungie has forgotten about them about too

Yes... Of corse they've forgotten about Marathon and Oni. Thats why in every Halo game there are subtile refrences to Marathon and why one of the main factions in the Halo universe is called Oni.

Seriously, the Halo genre works, thats why they make the games. The quality is still the same as the first Halo, except ofc for Halo Wars but that wasn't made by Bungie.

I really don't know why its so common for people to hate Halo. Just seems like they're tagging along in like some of the usual internet crap...

Really not surprised, people like more of the same. Halo was never big for me and I only tend to play it when I'm over my little brothers house and it's just multilayer non-sense. Nothing else ever really enticed me about the game, doesn't really seem I'm missing to much.

Even so, I checked out the new Halo ODST videos yesterday and I didn't see anything great looking about it.

I really don't understand the "I hate halos with a passion" comments. I mean really.. Has halo really hurt you that much?

There is much worse value to be had on the 360 compared to Halo. Bungie make a quality product. Maybe the games are overrated due to hype but that exist seperate from the game. A company could market the crap out of a game but if gamers don't bite then there's not hype, so that's on us

By this point im sure theyre afraid to try anything new. They know that whatever they do, if it doesnt have the Halo name attached to it, it most likely wont be able to reach the kind of sales of their previous games.

They haven't forgotten about Marathon and Myth. Myth was bought out by Take Two, I think, and Halo has references all over the place to Marathon. Also, Bungie is working on a new IP.

http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=24578

So quit complaining about them because they like making good, successful games. I guess most of you just really want to hate Bungie for some reason.

Personally, I think Bungie produces the finest/most balanced shooters available; regardless if they all fall under the same IP. This is what they do, and they do it extraordinarily well. Halo has a lot of back-story to milk, and by god I would milk the damn crap out of it if it meant the bills are being paid, and my kids can eat 3-square meals a day.

Be happy that their games aren't shitty. They're very good...stop whining about MORE very good games.

Bungie should, stay with microsoft, experiment with a new game other than Halo. Hopefully something like ratchet and clank, where you have a selection of weapons; ranged, spread, mass explosion, ranged ballistic, mini ballistic, shotgun, etc. that you can upgrade via usage and level and get mods and perks for them. A main character whos fighting in a hallacost-like war alongside a bunch a rebels. Try to stay away from the born super soldier thing this time, but have shield and armor upgrades and mods.... ARE YOU GETT1NG ANY OF THIS BUNGIE.

My point is alway be open to and try new things. and after 5 installments take a break for awhile, make a new game then a couple sequals (and a prequal) to that game from now make a great Halo game about how it all started and have it be freekin awsum!!!

they have left the door open for another possible two more halo games if they wanted, they could do a game around what happened to the first noble 6 before you join the noble squad and the cliffhanger in halo 3 opens the door for another but i love the halo games, the main reason why i bought a xbox in the first place but i think they should just make one final epic game that is timeless and always one you could pick up and play and still be addictive for months to come
