Bruce Willis picks up the role of Kane for Hollywood photo

Variety is reporting that Bruce Willis is currently in talks to take the role of Kane in the planned Kane & Lynch film from Lionsgate film studio. Although there's been no official word, it's been rumored that Billy Bob Thornton would pair up with Willis and take the role of the psychotic Lynch.

The film is being tackled by first-time director Simon Crane, who has worked previously on Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Troy, and X-Men: The Last Stand. The script is already finished by Kyle Ward, and the producers Adrian Askarieh and Daniel Alter are working together again after producing Hitman.

While Kane & Lynch wasn't the best game in the world, and we haven't had the best history with videogame movies, Kane & Lynch doesn't have to do too much to live up to its game counterpart. As Anthony said when he reviewed the game, there was a lot of missed potential that they could have expanded on in order to make the game really good. Do you guys think the movie could actually fufill that potential?

well at least we can take solace in the fact that Bruce Willis will only make it better.

They could pull a somewhat entertaining movie out of the characters from the game.

Willis and Thornton being attached makes it a much better idea.

I couldn't find anything on Kyle Ward, but I'm curious as to what the script looks like. Especially if the film tries to screw with your head, a la Memento or some such.

Billy Bob and Bruce: you'd think you can't go wrong with that. Let's just blame X3 on Brett Ratner and hope for the best? It should be a little better than Hitman though...

I'm actually interested in this one. While K&L was... something else all together, it had a really interesting story/characters. Mediocre demo aside, I wanted to give the title a rental just to see how the story played out (Never got around to it).

Hopefully it will turn out well, plus a team of Thornton and Willis would give me some hope.

Bruce Willis and Thornton were excellent together in that film where they rob a bank and it goes wrong . . . so isn't this going to just be Bandits 2??

This has potential best game to film written all over it.

If it is gonna be Willis and Thornton, and its an 18 cert film, its gonna be top draw stuff. Once the characters are all kinds of fucked up, the story has a lot of scope for their criminal goings on.

Sure, the game was luke warm, but its characters transcend its gameplay. Wouldn't it be funny if the film spawned a sequel game? Never seen that happen before.

The general consensus is that the game was somewhere between "very average" and "pretty bad", the movie almost cannot fare worse. After all, it is not a Uwe Boll abortion.

Kane and Lynch was a great PC game with shitty console ports.

I hope the movie sucks worse than the game. All this will do is open the floodgates for game developers to half-ass a game as long as they have a movie deal too. Play the first half of Kane & Lynch then watch the second half at your local cineplex.

Usually they take a good movie and make a bad video game from it. Maybe this time they will take a bad game and make a good movie.

I think it's safe to say that this game-to-movie adaptation will be better than its source material, one way or another.

Considering that most of the problems with the game won't be a factor here, and because the story was actually good, I'd say it stands a good chance of being better than the game.
