Brink to be released early, now out May 10 photo

Bethesda Softworks has announced that its upcoming first-person-shooter Brink is going to hit shelves a week earlier than planned, with North America receiving it on May 10 and Europe getting into things on May 13.

"Production wrapped on Brink earlier than we planned and we didn't see any reason to keep gamers from getting their hands on this highly anticipated game as soon as it was ready," said marketing lord Pete Hines. "It's apparent from the tremendous reaction so far that people are eager to jump online and play, and if we can make that happen earlier -- we're going to."

North America and Europe originally had May 17 and May 20 as release dates, respectively. Since I can barely contain my throbbing, wretched, red-raw maggot-boner over this game, the early release is rather good news for yours truly.

Brink looks like it might kick arse. Looking forward to finding out.

Brink is giving me the same vibe as Homefront. Everyone was all jazzed about it then realized it was pretty lame when it finally came out.

Not to be a Debbie Downer Jim, but didn't Kane & Lynch: Dog Days come out earlier than it was originally planned? Just saying.

I see it's now gonna beat LA Noire to the shops. Is this their intention?

If it is getting released early, then something went well to hurry it up, or at least that's what I am hoping.

Bethesda isn't exactly known for heavily testing their products for bugs, so I'm waiting on this game for a bit more information.

having been burned recently with so many new games having huge online issues (Homefront is STILL waiting to be patched), I think I'll wait on this one and check out their official forums on Day 1 to make sure the games actually works.

I wonder if they'll offer an online play demo?? That would certainly tip me into buying... I just want to ensure that the online functions properly and that I can play the game with friends. With no PS3 beta (that I know of) having been done it seems that very few online games seem to get the PS3 system right.

Still too close to LA Noire to be a Day 1, but happy for everyone else! This is indeed a rare occurrence.

@amtalx You don't appear to be a fan of Splash Damage then because comparing them to KOAS is kind of insulting.

@Elsa No demo.

FUCK!!!

This is bad, the game was gonna come out the same day my exam ends but now it comes out when they start. So gonna fail my final year. Damn you bethesda.

@The Cast... I think amtalx may be referring to the lack of a beta or demo. The game itself may be really good... it may get great previews from reviewers playing under idealized conditions (LAN play at the dev's studios or whatever)... but the lack of a beta or demo often means that there could be issues with the online play which turned out to be the case for Homefront. Homefront is a good game - only you can't get into a game with friends and can sometimes spend upwards of 20 minutes just trying to get into any game at all. It's just too frustrating to play with the broken online infrastructure.

I too am getting that same feeling about Brink. I hope I'm wrong, but I kinda know what he means about bad "vibe". :(

This is weird, GameFly lists it as already having been released:

(Normally it would have a release date in place of the word "Low" if it wasn't out yet.)

I am really hoping this turns out well. I love the style and class system they have going on. Hopefully it translates into 'fun'.

Hmmm, the early release is only welcome if the game doesn't require a patch right out the gate. I badly want this game, and I want it to be flawless. It wouldn't kill them to release a game as if they had no way to patch it. It's not like Sega or Sony had that luxury back in the day. I appreciate patches, but there's a limit to how many games I'm willing to fix that way because these money hungry a-holes want to push out the product faster.

I can't wait. I saw the videos and a small amount of gameplay, but I'm trying to not spoil too much more for myself. Let this game be my next tf2 please?

Also, who cares if it has a patch out of the gate? What are we, living in the late nineties still?

I'm not too worried if the online matches aren't playable day 1 since I can play my same character in single and then use him once servers are functional.

I hope it's great. Since they pushed back their Feb or so release estimation it's been off my radar, but I'd be glad to put it back on there.

Nice, been looking forward to this game for a while, and you rarely get to see games being released earlier than expected.

Probably also has something to do with LA Noire. Might not have as much fanfare and hype as a typical GTA, but anything from Rockstar is going to screw over any other game trying to compete.

Looks awesome, but it seems like a game that I will have to pick up used in a few months...or years :(

I don't have the time or money for all the games this year!

I hope you're saying that coz you agree that the money grubbing publishers are simply just to willing to push out the game rather than concentrate on how they can make it the best it can be, without having to fix issues after release. I know I'm not crazy when I say how fucked up it is that developers and publishers alike are doing this on a fairly constant basis to reap the most profit.

Am I the only person who has absolutely zero personal hype for LA Noire? Mind you, I've never been a huge Rockstar fan over the years. I've still only played my copy of GTA IV a handful of times, and was never really compelled to go back.

As for Brink, I'm really hoping for Bethesda to pull through on this one. I've been desensitized to shooters over the years, but still, I'll wait for the first reviews to make a call.

Glad to see that at least one publisher has common sense. They can spin it however they like, but this is so they can get Brink out before L.A. Noire destroys everything. Good call, and I wish more publishers had the stones to do the same.
