After seeing the latest trailer for Rage from QuakeCon, I feel as if the game is going in a completely different direction than what I had envisioned, sort of like what happen with Brutal Legend. That said, I was impressed by what was shown.
With Fallout 3 still fresh on our minds thanks its DLC, and Borderlands coming sooner than later, I was beginning to think there were too many post-apocalyptic stories being thrown our way, but then I remembered A) id Software is developing Rage B) we really haven't heard much about the game yet and C) Mad Max is f'ing rad.
For instance, how much of Ragewill be dune buggy death racing and how much will be played from a first-person perspective? I couldn't tell you, and I'd be willing to bet id couldn't either. The worst part about being a gamer? Having to spend so much time waiting.
Yes! We now have glorious HD for our videos! Make sure to click the little "HD" enable button, or else you won't get high-def, and believe us, you want high-def Rage.

When Samit inquired about his curious bio photo Jordan simply replied: "bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Oh golly. I hope that part at 1:33 (where the opposing buggy flips and flies off to crash and burn) isn't one of those 'scripted' interactions and actually a result of the game's physics engine.
'Scripted' meaning, for instance, you trigger something to happen in game (ex. running into another buggy with your buggy) and the result of this trigger is something that looks really rad (ex. a buggy twisting and soaring off to then finally explode in flames), but because of this trigger that causes this to happen, you end up seeing very similar events happen repeatedly over the course of the game.
Whereas if something that spectacular happened as a result of the game's physics and the engine, you may not see it every time you crash into another buggy, but you appreciate it so much more when it happens, since it becomes "Hey, look what I did!" rather than "Hey look at that thing the game showed me!"
I decided I should explain what my one sentence meant, rather than leaving it to speak for itself. Phooey. That was dumb.
Either way, I trust that this is not of case of 'scripting.' And overall the presentation of the game looks very nice. Though I think I missed the part, way back when, where they explained why the game is called Rage.
This looks incredibly promising. The setting, look, and vehicles give this a complete Half Life 2-meets-Fallout vibe.
The setting/premise may by similar between this and Borderlands, but I'm guessing Rage won't mimic the Diablo 2-esque gameplay of Borderlands, and Borderlands won't mimic the large scale HL2-esque feel of Rage.
lol so apparently every post apocalyptic game is fallout 3 now lol.. never mind Stalker or any of the shit before it. But OK! or besides the fact that this game was announced and began production before fallout 3 ever saw the light of day. But yeah, ive played it too, it was called fallout 3.

I think we can milk post apocalyptic games a little bit more.
First @bruceleethree, what are you talking about? and upgrade to the Doom 3 engine? If you only fucking knew anything about the id Tech 5 engine and how much more advanced it is compared to the Doom 3 engine. If you are just talking art style, yeah id games can have similar styles because they use the same artists, but the Tech 5 is insane on every level.
To anybody that has compared this game to HL2 in this thread or any other thread, what the fuck are you talking about? Fundamentally the game is completely different from HL2 aside from it being a first-person shooter. The story of HL2 is not even remotely similar, the technology of the two games are on two completely different levels. RAGE is lawless, has fucking mutants and a complete wasteland. HL2 is mostly urban with some seaside environments thrown in and the world is in complete lockdown from the Combine forces. All of that coupled with the fact that HL2 is 100% completely linear where RAGE is pretty much the polar opposite. NOTHING about RAGE is similar to HL2 aside from the completely basic element of shooting guns and driving a vehicle. With only those two similarities you could also add to the mix UT3, HAZE, any Battlefield game, Gears of War, Crysis and the list goes on.
As far as Mikey's (WastelandTraveler) list of post apoc games go, I think he is being very generous. The only games that I have played recently that are truly post apocalyptic are STALKER and Fallout 3. I haven't played Resistance so I can't speak for that game. L4D is a zombie game, that doesn't qualify as post apoc. Gears isn't even close to post apoc. And HL2 doesn't really qualify either. The HL series is much more sci-fi and crazy alien and mystery what-the-fuck-is-going-on kind of game. So there are really only 2 games that are truly and completely post apocalyptic themed games, and two more coming out this year.
It's EA PARTENERS. That means EA has nothing to do with development. They are literally just publishing it. They put the hard copy of the shelves. That's it.
Holy crap! At first I thought this was going to be another Doom 3 game where you're in a dark boiler room shooting mindless mutants, but this is way beyond my expectation. This is MUCH better than I expected.
Where's the love people?? That was some of the best lip syncing I have ever seen? The people looked more believable than pretty much anything else I have ever seem!
Awesome trailer. It's good to see something interesting and new come from a long time developer. I thought the trailer looked amazing and the animations were fucking top. Also, dune buggies. 'Nuff said.
I'd also like to know what the music was starting at 1:14. Sounded awesome.
I'm not majorly into FPSs but this game looks pretty damn awesome. Loved the mutant heads mounted on the wall in that saloon. Think I'll just chill there for the entire game...
I don't care what this game has, I'm still waiting for an FPS to give me an enemy which doesn't follow the "Big brute charges, you dodge to the side and then shoot it in the back, sometimes with it hitting the wall and dazing itself" pattern. Dear god I'm sick of that attack, yet nearly every goddam game has this guy!

I'm looking forward to both.
Seriously though, looks pretty sweet and I'm much more interested than I was previously.
