Brett Ratner to direct God of War movie photo

Hey, you know that completely mediocre movie Rush Hour 3? And you know that exquisitely crafted, beautifully designed, and jarringly visceral videogame God of War? Well, the guy who directed Rush Hour 3 is now officially directing a movie version of God of War!

Ugh.

Honestly, I am not going to go on a rant about how certain videogames never (ever!) need to be made into movies since the source material is so perfectly and gloriously cinematic already (i.e. BioShock, God of War, etc.). Instead, I am just going to hope for the best.

If rumors are true, the script is by David Self who also wrote the exceptional Thirteen Days with Kevin Costner. So that’s a good thing. And apparently David Jaffe would kill to have Djimon Hounsou play Kratos. And I love Djimon Hounsou. Maybe, just maybe this movie will have a chance.

Eh, who am I kidding? This is going to be a disaster.

What do you think? Are you sick of these videogame movies? Who do you think would be the perfect actor to play Kratos? Are you at least relieved Uwe Boll didn’t get his hands on this?

Djimon Hounsou was awesome in Blood Diamond -- seeing him yell "ARES!" would be pretty awesome. But Brett Ratner? The guy who ruined the X-Men franchise with The Last Stand after Bryan Singer left to do Superman Returns? No thanks.

Oh, God. (No pun intended.) Brett Ratner is one of those idiots who needs to be picked up by the seat of his pants and thrown out of Hollywood. He made a weak X-Men 3, beat the Rush Hour series into the ground, and wants to make a Guitar Hero movie. He's a stupid, stupid man.

Djimon Hounsou would be very awesome as Kratos.....but if I was directing it, I'd give that role to Samuel L. Jackson. That'd be epic. EPIC!!!

So he doesn't get to make a Guitar Hero movie, so he's moving on to God of War. Great. I can't wait for the high-speed chariot chase that ends in an explosion, and Chris Tucker's sidekick character saying "Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn!".

The high speed chariot chase would end with them flying off a cliff while Chris Tucker screams "Kratos! Kratos! You're craaaazy!" Other future classic one liners: "Do you understand the words that are coming out of Zeus's mouth?!?" "All ya'll Greeks look alike!" "Don't you ever touch a black man's lute! I'll slap your ass right back into the Hellenistic age!"

Well, at least Uwe Boll isn't involved. Not that that means the movie will be good, but it does mean it won't be Boll-level bad. Now to try not to die inside at how I envision this movie will turn out.
