Breaking: Valve still hates the PS3! photo

In yet another absolute shocker, Valve has confirmed that it still has absolutely zero interest in Sony's Black Box o' Blu-ray, stating that Left 4 Dead isn't coming to the PS3 simply because ... well ... nobody at Valve wants to have to port it over.

"We look at it as if we were customers of this product, how would we want to be treated and what sort of product would we want out of it?" explains Doug Lombardi. "We've run a couple of experiments over the years of PlayStation in general; we did Half-Life on PS2 with an outside company and then we did Orange Box PS3 with an outside company. We weren't able to deliver the same type of product on PS3 and PS2 for that matter that we were on the 360 and PC.

"If you look at it as a matter of Valve doing it, Valve did the 360 and the PC version of the Orange Box and they both go 96 on Metacritic -- The PS3 version was nowhere close to that. Left 4 Dead got an 89 or a 90 on 360 and PC ... Until we have the ability to get a PS3 team together, until we find the people who want to come to Valve or who are at Valve who want to work on that, I don't really see us moving to that platform."

Don't feel bad, PS3 fans. As Lombardi says, they're really considering you in all this. By not porting Left 4 Dead to the PS3, they're really saving you from playing an inferior product. If anything, Valve are heroes in all of this and you should really be thanking them. Sony fans, next time you're in Seattle, send Valve a card and be bloody grateful for once in your lives!

I play L4D on PC so Im not so much concerned about this news however for people who only own a PS3 its a shame to see valve not capitalizing on the amount of profit that is there. I will say this, despite how valve talks like the Orange Box on the PS3 is the red-headed step child, if it wasnt for EA putting on PS3 I would not have fallen in love with the HL2 series as I did. And when valve talks like that it kind of sickens me, to think that the Orange Box on PS3 was like an abortion gone wrong and yet the child was born anyways on uglier and the parents hate the child twice as much.

Yep. Thats pretty much the same with me. Oh, that and I love how they reach for excuses no matter what.

It IS a little shitty you can't get L4D. But it seemed to imply that they wanted to port it, but either can not or do not want to cause hassle for something that, with their other port selling not-that-great, less profit. I predict eventual porting, followed by crappy sales, followed by no more porting, followed by whining.

Latest word is Valve is looking for PS3 programmers for in-house work.

Honestly they're just being lazy.
Valve could easily ask Sony and it's many 1st/2nd party devs to help out Valve with porting over Left 4 Dead 1 & 2 as well as making better ports to the Orange Box and perhaps even Half Life 3 if that's possible.
In a way I can understand that Valve don't know very much about the PS3 but it doesn't hurt to ask Sony for help now isn't it.

Then again I don't really care cuz I usually get Valve games on 360 anyways.
But still it could easily be fixed.

Orange Box PS3 was just as good as the 360 version as far as I played. I don't understand why they won't make their games for the PS3, all they are losing is sales. It takes much less money to port a game to initially make it for ANY platform.

It makes me sad. I like Valve games a lot. I would like to be able to play them on my PS3 a lot. Until they want to put together a PS3 crew, I am going to have a difficult time wanting to purchase any more of their products (for my PC or 360)

@Hoborg: Is there some personal void in your life that is filled by hating on a console whose existence doesn't affect you in any way?

@Midgetsnowman: If schadenfreude amuses you so much, you must spend a lot of time alone.

Wait, is he taking credit for other peoples work?

As I recall, EA had very little input from Valve to port the gae beyond "Here's the source code, good luck!"

The formula is simple.

Valve hater = PS3 fanboy.
PS3 fanboy = delusional anger.
Delusional anger = Bullshit.
Bullshit = wrongness.
Wrongness = Valve hater.

It's a beautiful circle. I guarantee you there is not one Valve hater on this thread who doesn't also happen to be a PS3 owner. Can you not see how transparent the inspiration for your hate is?

I don't hate Guerilla games for not giving us the awazing Killzone2, and I don't get all churlish about it, bitching "WAAAAHHHHH, Guerilla games, are like so crappy, because they're too lazy/shit to bring K2 to the console that will net them the highest return..Waaahhhhh..."

I don't hate the PS3. But I fucking despair at the PS3 fanboy. Easily the worst of the bunch.

I still don't see what was wrong with the PS3 Orange Box.

Poor PS3 fanboys. Know this, Valve is doing this because they love you. HARD love.

@BattyAdroit: Not really. Its just I've long since learned there's two ways to react to people speaking absolute bullshit out of anger and rage over something as minor and inconsequential to their continued functioning as videogame companies. Either laugh your ass off at them, or despair at how absolutely stupid humans can get.

I don't get the argument of why doesn't valve want to learn or grow a pair and develop for the PS3.
They just aren't interested in doing it. What's so hard to understand? People seem hardheaded about this. Sure they could make a few extra bucks and put out halfassed ports but that's not them,
can we leave it alone? They don't want to.

Kinda hard to play a Valve game on your 360 when the f*cker is dead because of the Red Ring of Death. After I sent the thing back to Microsoft for the 3rd time I ditched my 360, went with the PS3, and never looked back.

It's a shame I can't get my L4D or GTA4 add-on fix, but at least my console works.
