BREAKING: Next Mortal Kombat to have blood photo

If you’re a person who loves to crack open hookers in order to experience the wonders of human innards or enjoy a rousing session of Mortal Kombat, sit down for this one: Midway Games are working on Mortal Kombat 9 and according to head honcho and kreator of the venerable franchise Ed Boon, it will be rated “Mature.”

Earlier this afternoon (that whole “BREAKING” thing was a joke; har har.) Ed Boon spilled the Mortal Kombat 9 and violence beans with a forceful tweet. “People want an M-rated MK ... dammit, we will give them an M-rated MK.”

So, yeah, it looks like Midway is kicking the Bat and Flash to the curb and unshackling Mortal Kombat. It’s a good move. Nobody hates detached spinal cords. In fact, every game should have at least two of them.

Thank god! A Teen-rated Mortal Kombat is like an M-rated Super Mario. It just shouldn't happen.
Even though it already did.

GASP! What a novel idea for a MK game! :b

Yeah, I'll believe it when I see it.

Scandalous rumours Brad, SCANDALOUS!

It'll never happen, but whenever they make a *final* MK game I want it to have digitized actors. I don't care how impractical and likely terrible it would look.

I actually like MK Vs. DC. I still play it from time to time. I do miss the M rating, but the gameplay is the best of any 3D MK game. I hope MK9 play like MK Vs. DC with an M rating. That would great.

Actually, it'd be even better if they made it 2D, but I won't get my hopes up.

There really hasn't ever been an MK that wasn't solid in my opinion, especially PS2 onward. The DC one was a bit bizarre, but there were some really great concepts executed in it as well. It will be interesting to see where they take this next game.

Dude it's been way to long since they had a decent MK and honestly I don't know if it will ever get back into shape.

They need to keep Ed Boon away from MK, he hasn't made a decent MK game since MK 3.

Unlike probably most people I like Mortal Kombat. Its a fun stupid fighting game with wicked characters and a universe that is very rich with lore. This is the MK Ive been wanting since Deception.

Mortal Kombat *used* to be amazing. The franchise needs a serious overhaul in order to compete with all of the amazing fighters that are currently out/coming out.

They should go back to the roots of what made MK a fun fighter.
See MK, MK II and MK3.
You listening, Ed?
Maybe even bring back John Tobias to consult.

People don't want an M-rated MK, they want an MK that doesn't suck balls. Didn't these people go bankrupt or something? Something about selling MK franchise cheap? Please just let it die.

@Caspir Sinclair

Coming from someone without an avatar, that's a surprisingly good idea. Seriously, I would love it if they did that.

@Cuba Gooding Jr
I think the real competitive fighting game fans don't like how unbalanced the MK games tend to be,

Caspir Sinclair and Artemis got it right. It needs to have those awesome live-action captures for sprites. If they could get those running at 60fps it would be so beautiful...

2D would be nice but Im happy as long as its not like the last few games. They were too awkward and clunky. The animations were crap (but kind of funny) and the characters felt so robotic and lifeless.

I actually think they have gone downhill since Mk4 (shut up). At least that game had the essence of a mortal kombat game, as budget as it was.

@DeadHead8: The avatar comment hurt, dude. So much.

Either way, although not being particularly into the series, I actually hope it does okay and retains its original meaning: bloody, pulpy things that I'd rather stay away from, unless I'm drunk. The gameplay had never cut it for me, unfortunately. Although the new one actually played reasonably well. If you could take your bleeding eyes away from the completely out of place DC characters. Although I'll admit it had some nonsensical humour to it.

mk4 was decent becauae it was the first 3d one.
havent been a decent mk in my opinion in years.

I would like to see them dump the create your own fatality i dont think they are fun , keep the 2d gameplay and chees factor dont try to make the game to serious.

I also loved all the secrets and weird stuff ther second mortal kombat had.

Reading some of the previous comments is kind of like watching a ping pong match.

"MK sucks"

"MK is pretty cool"

"MK blows"

"MK is awesome"

Put me in the "I still like it well enough" camp.

I can only imagine their disappointment when they find out that with or without blood, Mortal Kombat just isn't relevant any more, and it won't sell regardless.
