Quick, somebody get me CNN on the phone, because I have a red hot tip that will shake the entire foundations of America as we know it. Disaster: Day of Crisis, an IP as old as time itself, has NO release date and won't hit store shelves in May, contrary to rumors! SHOCK!
The game, which has been in development since the day Charles Darwin was born, is a survival title which charges players with the task of escaping a variety of natural disasters. The game was due for release in mid-2007, but very much like that other unreleased IP, Sadness, it seems that the game has been developed with pixie wishes and goblin tears.
Okay, to be fair, developer Monolith Soft has proven that it can make actual, existing games in the past, and Disaster is to be published by Nintendo, so it has a far greater air of legitimacy than Sadness ever did. Still, with Nintendo shooting down the May 30 release date and there still being no firm details after all this time, I wonder if this thing will make a 2008 release, or indeed, a release at all.
Only time will tell. It feels like it could be nothing less than a disaster in its own right at the moment, though.
O wait, I thought this was cancelled
The video game.
Disaster: Day of Crisis is a paradox!
I'm sorry I can't help it
All the same. Console launches get people excited for games that will never see the light of day.
The concept of Sadness is cool and exciting. It's just unfortunate that Nibris continues to screw with everyone. You would think that a developer that is serious about making an innovative game like that would be quick to respond to rumors and claims that the developer and its games don't exist. Funny how Nibris has no physical evidence that the game exists despite having some pieces of concept art, in-game details and a song sample.
I also find it strange how Nibris was able to get a live action concept trailer for Sadness into Nintendo's E3 2006 Wii conference trailer but back in late 2007, Nintendo said that Nibris is not an official developer for the Wii despite the developer claiming to be one. Nibris also failed on multiple occassions to keep its promise to show off the game at certain game event shows and provide a new trailer.
It will probably wind up in that infamous nether-world we like to call "vaporware", if it's not considered to reside there already. Is there a statute of limitations on these things?
What's clear is that Wii needs new IP to drive it next to long established IP.
As for Sadness, who knows, but I really hope it does deliver in the end. It has potential and looks original.
Hey, if 3d Realms can push Duke Nukem onto consoles, after a 10 year stretch, anything is possible. Sadness still has a chance.
THEN THEY SWITCHED REVOLUTION TO Wii
and all those games are forgotten by Nintendo. :(
THIS SUX!!!
