Then I got a decent internet connection. I havent bought a single magazine since. So, not too much of a loss from my point of view.

Earliest episodes are pant-splittingly funny.
It just seems like the end of an era. EGM was a real institution when it came to videogame magazine. I guess it's not going into nostalgia territory.
This is horrible. I've been an avid follower of 1UP Yours, Broken Pixels, and the 1UP Show. I always looked forward to new episodes each week and the way Ziff handled this just screams of TechTV all over again. Cherry-picking Garnett (understandably, because he rules) while laying off some of the best in the business.
Hopefully, Giant Bomb has some spots open, but what I'd really love is another independent review and discussion site. That's asking for a lot, but damn it, I needs my weekly fix of Shane-isms and ridiculous stories of the gaming industry.
RIP EGM
And as if I didn't need another reason to despise UGO.
From all the various blog posts and Twitters by now-former 1UP staff members, there seems to be an undercurrent that the whole story has yet to be told and that many of them will be willing to tell it in the near future. I will be painfully eager to here how this all went down.
Sad to see a game magazine fail that's been around so long though.
no more 1up show???? now THAT is shitty. i like that show.
but folks, if you must read a gamemag, check out PLAY.
I subscribed to EGM from 1988 to 2003. To me it was the best gaming mag ever. Remember when it would arrive in the mail, in that plastic sleeve. It was all shiny and new. What gaming news awaited you inside? You'd open it and smell it inside. It had that new mag smell. It was magical to receive EGM in the mail. Yes, I'll always have fond memories of taking a crap and reading my latest EGM.
I always imagined that the games owned/wishlist function they have over there would be kinda what Niero would be implementing here in the future.
That would be nice.
*hugs every EGM ever*
Unfortunately a small-staffed site like Giant Bomb wont be able to house anyone from 1UP, but I hope IGN scoops a couple of these guys up and I hope a quality enthusiast press outlet comes of this.
1UP was one of the better bigger websites out there
And it had some amazing writers working there, the majority of which have now been laid off
UGO will, no doubt, run it into the ground by probably Summer
One of the things which sets this site apart is the provision of (often excellent) free content from the userbase - stick to this model and we should be on the right track. With this in mind, I am inspried to write my first Monthly Musings this month. Long live Dtoid!
Oh, and UK-ers, you can bet that Edge is currently facing a similar struggle for its own existence, as are most UK mags which don't feature celebrity gossip......
