Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers... I still can't get over that name. It's got three more syllables than Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix, the game I previously thought would remain champion in the "unnecessarily long title" contest for years to come. I believe in Capcom though. Hopefully in a few years, we'll get Super Street Fighter IV Versus Resident Evil Turbo Zombie Warfare HD Wii Edition or something. That would be a triump indeed.

Anyway, back to the news. After the jump, you'll find videos depicting 16 seconds of break-dance violence and a little over a minute of a beachfront fantasy in The Crystal Bearers. It's videos like this that make me think this game is going to flop, despite how fun the game looks. I fear that Final Fantasy fans (of which there are many) will be turned off by the game's pervasive sense of humor and SD graphics, and non-Final Fantasy fans (of which there are even more) will be turned off by the, y'know, Final Fantasy-ness.

I guess I'll have to wait until Kwanzaa to see if I'm right.

I hope this game turns out well. I wish I could breakdance in order to knock out children!

Im liking how this game is looking. A big part is because it doesnt look like a FinalFantasy spinoff at all

I couldn't help but laugh every time the starfish and urchins fell from the sky. No one seemed to be alarmed by it, and that's just awesome.

That's unnecessarily long?

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzonoha vs. The Soulless Army.

'Nuff said.

Exactly. I've never been I FF guy, but after seeing and reading the previews for this game, I'm pretty excited for it.

As an outsider looking in it's always seemed to me like the Final Fantasy series took itself really seriously (hilariously so at times), so I'm intrigued that this entry in the series seems to be showcasing it's lighthearted side. There's not enough games where you can breakdance kick people, so I'll be watching how this game shapes up.

@ Pedro- 24 syllables. You win.

@ Everybody- Good to hear that the lighthearted tone of the game appeals to some of you too.

I hope that is a joke, considering there hasn't been any HD FF released, but there have been quite a few SD FF games, on the Wii, DS, and PSP, and all have made money (even though the niche games didn't break out of niche status).

Is it wrong that I feel more excited for this than XIII? I think it looks cool because it is a good bit different.

I don't know, this really seems to be the only one I have even cared about since FF6.

My favorite ridiculously long game title has always been Guilty Gear X2 #Reload: The Midnight Carnival.

Most original and exciting game to come out of Square Enix since the first Kingdom Hearts.

Am I really the only one who thinks this kind of game can attract a lot of non-FF gamers? I mean my roommate, who hates FF and really any turn-based game, thought it was incredible that instead of playing a "farmer turned hero", you were ALREADY a hero, and that they implemented motion sensitive shooting into the gameplay. How cool is that?

though I'd like for this to be on the xbox (I'm a sucker for high rez graphics, and Square has some awesome awesome awesome artists.) - this will be yet another hit I bet. I dunno, but lately Square's really been doing well. Dissidia Final Fantasy, Crisis Core, the OTHER crystal chronicles was good, especially since my bf and I both had game boys. It was really really fun. now, if they just finally did a remake of 7, I think I could die a happy person.
