Brazil gets a semi-awesome portable Genesis photo

Brazilians will be getting a handheld Genesis system on December 5th. It will have 20 built in games ranging from Sonic, Altered Beast, Ecco, Golden Axe, Kid Chameleon and more. This is an official Sega product and it will take 20 D sized batteries to run. I'm just kidding, that was a jab at the Game Gear. I'm hilarious! It only needs three AAA batteries to run.

This does sound like an awesome idea but there's just one small little detail that ruins this entire concept. It costs R$199, which converts to $113 US monies. If you really needed a portable Genesis, then I'd suggest buying a Nomad online. They're less than half of this machine and you can actually swap out different games in the Nomad ... And you can use the left over cash to rent out a hooker too!

I thought Nomads went for more than that.

Anyway, cool!

There's a gadget that can do that and more, a PSP with emulation.

Upgrayedd: They ain't going for much in eBay.

rod: The tip came in to GamePro. Didn't know they posted it too (I rarely visit them, no offense, I like the site, just rarely have time to go to it).

This is actually pretty cool, but, why $113, and why Brazil only?

@Dexter: I´m Brazilian, and I believe I can answer why this is being released here only. Sega has a representative in Brazil (Tec Toy), but this company supported only the Master System, Game Gear and Mega Drive (Genesis) which, by the way, were the LAST consoles officially released here, believe it or not. Since the only way of getting anything newer than a Genesis or SNES is importing, I believe Tec Toy is trying to milk this outdated system as much as they can, since they can still legally support it here, and sell it at lower prices. Just comparing, a PS3 at launch costed US$600 in the US and R$5000 here (note: 1 dolar = 1,75 Reais). Outrageous! I can buy almost TWO LCD displays for this price!!!

I´m jumping to next-gen now, only because my father is going to Chicago and hopefully bringing back a Wii with him :)

I wouldn't mind one, if it was cheaper.

Just to prove my point, Tec Toy released the Mega Drive 3 here only I believe, and it was a closed box with a bunch of pre-loaded games just like this "thing" above.

Without any kind of support for the last 3 generations, I wonder why people are still amazed of piracy here...

I guess they figured it's $3 for each game, and the rest goes towards the hardware.

Yeah, a PSP Genesis collection would make more sense.

It's sexy. And since I'm brazilian, I might pick one off just to know that I have something you petty americans don't have on your precious little GameStops...

Nah, too expensive. With this money I can almost buy and original Wii game. Serious: they're out here for something like 250 brazilian bucks, even the old and crappy ones like Red Steel. Niiiice country.

@ zer0ne
there's no developer support, because it comes with those 20 games and that's it, no cartridges, no cd, no memory stick, no usb connection, nothing. it's just like a super evolved minigame, wich will never get any imporvement at all.. ok, it can be plugged on your tv, but that's as good as it gets! still I'd buy one if it were like half the price...

Hooray for foreign market overpriced emulatorware. This stuff is everywhere, and most of it illegal and unsanctioned too. I know this is official, but that just makes it worse, because it's going to be even more overpriced like that.

@Alael: Actually TecToy released the Master Sytem, Mega Drive (Genesis), Sega CD, 32X, Game Gear, Sega Saturn and the Dreamcast.
Now they are no longer representatives of Sega (hence the lack of Sega logos on the consoles they manufacture today) they pay licensing fees for Sega to use their games (hence no third party games on the consoles they do today).
