Braid may eventually come to PSN, but WiiWare is out of the question photo

There probably aren’t very many gamers in my boat: out of the three current-gen consoles, I only own a PlayStation 3 -- and I have no plans to purchase an Xbox 360, let alone a Wii, anytime in the near future. Lest we descend into fanboy wars, let’s just say that my console situation is what it is, and regrettably, I currently have no means to play 360-exclusive games like Jonathan Blow’s exquisite puzzle platforming masterpiece Braid.

After reading testimonials of all kinds -- including Destructoid’s review of the game -- touting the game’s gorgeous visuals, incredibly well told story, and stupefying puzzles, I really want to play it. But sadly, I have no means to do so at the moment. Enter Canadian gaming Web site GameFocus, who recently interviewed Jonathan Blow, Braid's lead designer.

Blow revealed that Microsoft holds a timed exclusive on the game; that deal that will be up “sometime in the future” (gee, thanks for the specificity there, Mr. Blow). Once that happens, the game may make its way to the PlayStation Network, but there’s nothing definitive yet -- surely, the exclusive deal prevents all talk of that nature. I’ve certainly got my fingers crossed, though.

In addition, Blow noted that bringing Braid to WiiWare simply isn’t doable; the game is larger than the 512 MB of flash memory that makes up the console’s internal storage. Sorry, geeks and otaku -- for now, you’re just going to have to buy a 360 if you want to play Braid.

[Via GameFocus -- thanks, Jonathan!]

Common Samit, you weren't really expecting him to say when timed exclusivity ends, were you? :P

I think you mean non-geeks and non-otaku.

Samit clearly you just need to get a hold of your brothers 360 immediately. Haven't there been other instances in the past where you've lamented not having a 360?

@The-Excel: I can see where you're coming from, but I don't think you're necessarily right. Saying "geeks and otaku" implies that someone already owns a Wii, but they want more storage for it.

I agree with wiliam6, this post could use more handcrafted Tiffany jewelry.

Samit, why don't you suck it up and buy a 360? Call it a business expense.

Isn't Braid also apparently coming to Steam at some point?

Yeah, this is coming to the PC this year also. Trust me, I won't buy a 360, either.

Y'know , I literally just heard about this game on the weekend. I really can't understand why theres so much talk about it. Isn't it just like that time controlling cat game but in 2D?

I really hope it makes it over to PSN, and I see no reason why it wouldn't once the exclusivity agreement is up.

Awesome, I'd much rather play this on PS3 rather than PC, this is great news!

Wonder if Sony or Steam would price the game at $10 instead of forcing it to $15? I got no problem paying $15 though.

Dammit, Nintendo, fix the memory issue! I want Braid on Wii!

I realize that it probably still won't come to Wii, but it sounds as though nobody understands the fact that porting a game to a console that doesn't support the resolutions that Xbox 360 is capable of would result in smaller artwork, resulting in drastically smaller file sizes.

GUYS. There is still a PC version coming. The website even says so! Don't take that away from me. It is my only hope for this game.

@Polish Hill: Unfortunately, my brother's 360 is inaccessible. He was taking summer classes at college, so it's with him there.

I'm also on that boat. But I'm also glad that my boat doesn't decide to sink every 6 months for no reason.

I may be in your boat soon cause I'm about to sell my Wii while they are worth something. I keep waiting for games, but I'm getting tired of wasting my time.

I was always getting the PC version. I want it on my laptop so I can take it everywhere. Unless some 1337 haxor wants to get it running on a DS.

When I downloaded Braid on XBLA it said it was 140MB. How is that bigger than 512MB? I understand it's compressed for the download, but that seems pretty big after unpacking.

So can we expect the PC version to suffer from the same kind of exclusivity deal?

You and I, we are the same. However there is a chance my laptop may be able to run the PC version of Braid.

I own a PS3 and a Wii. And I wouldn't want to play Braid on the Wii anyways (or PC), so that only leaves one option. *OH PLEASE**OH PLEASE**OH PLEASE**OH PLEASE**OH PLEASE**OH PLEASE**OH PLEASE**OH PLEASE**OH PLEASE**OH PLEASE*

@Necros - This is true, unless you're talking about Activision, EA, or Blizzard (which I guess is Activision, sadly.)

@Samit - Seriously. Either buy a 360, or just be comfortable with the fact that you're not able to play XBL and 360 exclusives. I hate these posts where you're like "Well, I don't want this to be a fanboy flame war, but I refuse to take the necessary step to play this game because of my own righteous indignation." Suck it up, or Shut it up.
