I'm sure we've all wanted to shoot our brothers at some point, but 11-year-old De-Andre Finley went that extra mile, accidentally killing his 9-year-old sibling after a videogame row ended with terminal consequences.
"The younger brother allegedly got mad because he got beat at some video games and got the gun," explains Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson. The two struggled over the firearm, and it allegedly went off accidentally, killing the younger boy. The father of the two was outside mowing the lawn at the time of the incident.
The police say they can "live with" De-Andre's version of the story, since the gun was too heavy for the boy to properly aim and fire with malice aforethought.
It's not believed that De-Andre will be charged, due to his young age and the fact that it "appeared to be an accident anyway." Also, to be fair, the younger brother started it.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Jim is an asshole: confirmed.
Chill out, I actually laughed at that, reminds me of what would be said if it was my and my brother.
On a serious note, exactly what habslove said. Silly Americans and their guns
VIDEO GAMES ARE THE DEVIL! BAN THAT SICK FILTH! THE YOUTH OF TODAY WILL DEGENERATE INTO A WORTHLESS CESSPOOL OF GAMERS COME THEIR 30S! THE ECONOMY WILL GET WORSE! CRIME WILL GO UP! THE TERRORISTS WILL WIN!
"The younger brother allegedly got mad because he got beat at some [s]video games[/s]air hockey game and got the gun," poof! Not our problem anymore,

Leaving out the gun was stupid enough, but how did the nine-year old get the bright idea to gun his brother for winning? Talk about being a sore loser, but Jesus Christ, that takes the cake.
The irony is rife.
If I go outside and see a bunch of pre-teens with guns, I'm thinking that there's more of a problem than video games. I mean, guns are more expensive than video games.
Will we ever see a campaign for better parenting? How about a campaign for safe gun/weapon storage? Maybe we should start a campaign for 'everyone stop being fucking stupid and think about what you're doing for just one god-damn second', that would cover a lot of things.
Hey... if it helps keep the herd thinned out, I'm all for it. It's not good to let the window-lickers overpopulate.
First off, the kid goes and gets the gun... how is that not any form of intent? Thats kind of like me bringing a bazooka into a grocery store after the store ripped me off and saying I wasn't going to blow anything up...
Secondly, why the hell are the parents not getting any heat for this?!
Also, why all the Sterling hate? Yeah he's totally wrong about L4D2 but really guys chill the fuck out.
Read it again. The younger boy, the one who died, went and got the gun.
whoops...
Smart idea dad. Mowing the lawn is your excuse? Smooth.
Unfortunately, because it's a great way to hammer home the moral that guns are incredibly dangerous.
Tasteless jokes aside, that IS some seriously bad gun care on the part of the parent. No safety lock or trigger lock on the gun, AND it's someplace the kid could get to, WITH the ammunition in reach too?(though, who knows, maybe the kid knew how to pick locks) Yeesh...
So anyhow, was he shot in the face?
/tasteless joke
and I mean good fucking parenting!!! how the hell did the kid get access to the gun int he first placE??????
But one kid more or less, oh well.
I thought it was going to be milder but I guess it wasn't. My bad.
That is fucking brilliant.
Also, why is this videogame related? If you publicise things like this on gaming sites, people are going to assume it's the game's fault when it's a fault of the kids' (or parents for showing them where the gun was).
That and the shame the game was most probably Wii Sport. Seriously not the game to die for.
or not...
Since having guns is every American's God given right, the only logical explanation to this tragedy is that "VIDEOGAMES KILL PEOPLE" !
It's that simple ! God can't be wrong, thus humans interpreting God's will can't be wrong either.
Guns are good
Videogames are bad
F*ing retards !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have much more respect for people who kill other people with their bare hands, at least they have to work for it ...
did you read the original article (you can find a link on the kotaku article Sterling links to)? there's no blaming on video games or gaming at all - it just says that the fight popped up because the one of them got upset over getting beaten while playing a game. which, presumably, is the truth. likely the only reason they mentioned what the fight was over was because it was such a trivial thing which lead to such a tragic event - if they got in a fight over who got to play with a GI Joe or something, the article likely would've mentioned that.
and, btw, this sort of shit could've easily happened in canada - i get the impression that the US gun laws concerning storage of guns are poorer than Canada's, but it's easy enough for gun owners in canada to ignore the laws, and i'm sure a very *large* number do leave their guns unlocked, possibly with ammo still loaded (especially if they're concerned about home defence). so dont make this into some kind of patriotic issue, charley :7 (and, yes, i'm canadian too)
My dad was like that too. It really is good that he was like that because that reduces my chances of making a stupid gun-related mistake.
@Everyone getting on Jim
Shut up, you are all stupid. It was a joke, and a sadly funny one at that. Get over it.
