Gearbox Studios isn’t opposed to changing the way people exchange loot in the fascinating RPS,
Borderlands. The catch is that the crew behind the game will move in whatever direction the community wants to in the future -- not now.
“We were pretty careful there,” Gearbox’s Mikey Neumann told
Shacknews in a recent interview when asked if trade in the game would be expanded. “We wanted free-for-all looting for now. Then we'll look at what the community really latches on to or wants, and we'll move in that direction.”
Neumann hasn’t encountered a problem with loot-whoring like some complaining about the free-for-all, simply-drop system have been. If there’s a dispute, Neumann says he settles it via duels with a hearty helping of the honor system afterward.
“A lot of times if we wanted something, we'd [friends, co-workers, and randoms] duel for it, That seems to be the best way,” he said. “It's kinda the honor system. It is fun to fight your friends and show who's the big dog to get certain loot drops”
If the community does prove to want a new system, Neumann said that new rules (or whatever) would be patched across all platforms. He then admitted that there are some technical hurdles involved, but Gearbox would do it’s best to “try to make it all better.”
It's good to see that Gearbox is listening to fans though.
Dueling? That fucktarded to decide who gets what. Free for All looting is 10 years old, if not older. They should put in a new system that allows all greens and up based on host settings to be needed or greeded. Or plain rolled for (dice). There so many ways.
However, I did love the free loot system though. It was nice to be able to manage items in that way, instead of the ten-times restricted item and loot systems most games today have.
Since I haven't played those kind of games, what exactly is the need/greed system?
I never particularly cared for the Brothers in Arms series, but the Half-life games they made were pretty good.
Theres nothing wrong with the framerate on ps3....please explain!
Other than that I've had no problems. Me and my friend just set up who has priority to what weapon types.
And I have no idea what the framerate issue is on the PS3, but I do have a friend that keeps complaining about lag when we play though I don't experience any...
Is that what they were going for? That's like saying if they set it up so you could only co-op with your buddy list that the game is "fine," because people play it as such. If the change was implemented people would use it. Seems like it's pretty obvious that it should be a priority for them.
And obviously not the top one given that there were day 1 glitches. But that fact only proves that they can screw up, so maybe they should listen to the fans.
I will now say the game goes from being reasonably difficult to INSANELY HARD the second playthrough (if you are playing solo). My poor Hunter keeps getting murdered by BigMotha Skags that show up every two seconds. Grr...
What's not fantastic is the complete inability to play online. I tried connecting to one friend's game 14 times in a row. It's completely broken. Get on fixing those port issues Borderlands.
Also, a loot system or a way to share information would be great. Right now, it's mic-only and you have to say all the stats and it gets confusing. "45 damage times two fire." "Wait, fires two bullets or is the fire damage times two?" And when you say all that, and need to compare 2-3 weapons, it gets really confusing. There should be an option to view your ally's equipment from your screen. That would fix it. That same window could let you trade. Problem fixed.
How hard is it to distribute loot to the ones that actually need.
Play solo or with friends.
Got no friends?
MAKE SOME.
/fixed
I've actually made a bunch of new friends playing Borderlands. It's a great game if you have cool people to play with.
Hit me up if you ever want to rock out in the wastes. XBLGC = Lost i t W
Must be...I can kill stuff relatively fast, they just mob me. I've had the same gun since I beat the game which might be the problem, but the game apparently hates dropping me good loot so...
Um what's up with that dog training spambot?
What was that one week delay for, again?
HAPPY DANCE

Things like this are never an issue! Also, neither is suck. And that makes co-op actually fun.
I think one of the best things they could have done is put people on an imaginary world where something makes you fight every thing around you, even those who've helped you, for the tools to survive. It just makes the experience more believable.
