Borderlands soundtrack hitting in December photo

The Borderlands soundtrack is a thing that is happening this December.

In a press release sent last afternoon, Sumthing Else Music Works announced plans to sell the Borderlands original soundtrack via retail and digital download starting this December 8th. The release will feature most, if not all, the original tracks in the game from artists Jesper Kyd, Sascha Dikiciyan, Cris Velasco, Raison Varner, and Tim Larkin.

A clear and obvious bummer, the original soundtrack will not include the game’s broody opening theme song, “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked,” by Cage the Elephant.

Perhaps to make up for the lack of Cage the Elephant, or perhaps just to aid marketing the soundtrack, this release will have a total of six bonus tracks created by all the artists listed on the soundtrack.

The full track listing is available below the fold.

Track Listing:

1. Prelude (Jesper Kyd)
2. Welcome To Fyrestone (Jesper Kyd)
3. Enter Skag Gully (Raison Varner)
4. Fighting Off The Skags (Raison Varner)
5. Removing The Bandit Threat (Sascha Dikiciyan and Cris Velasco)
6. Traversing The Deep (Raison Varner)
7. Fighting Sledge's Minions (Sascha Dikiciyan and Cris Velasco)
8. Welcome to The Bunker (Sascha Dikiciyan and Cris Velasco)
9. Smoking Out The Bunker (Sascha Dikiciyan and Cris Velasco)
10. Burning Rubber and Shooting Bullets (Sascha Dikiciyan and Cris Velasco)
11. The Junkyard Vista (Jesper Kyd)
12. Welcome to The Trash Coast (Raison Varner)
13. The Rakkhive Emerges (Raison Varner)
14. Assaulting Krom's Canyon (Raison Varner)
15. Battling Krom's Minions (Raison Varner)
16. Fighting Krom and His Gun (Sascha Dikiciyan and Cris Velasco)
17. Trash The Bandits (Sascha Dikiciyan and Cris Velasco)
18. Trash The Bandits Some More (Sascha Dikiciyan and Cris Velasco)
19. Welcome To The Wastelands (Jesper Kyd)

Honestly I love the game, but the music is not a large reason for that.

I can't wait to not buy this fantastically forgettable music.

Cage the Elephant is pretty cool, but I was honestly disappointed to see that 'No Heaven' by Champion wasn't featured in the game after being so present in the marketing.

I do love Jesper Kyd, though. He's definitely one of the industry's secret weapons of awesome.

I'm such a fan of the game that I might actually pick this up...

I wish they (publishers in general) would release more game soundtracks. They have a certain appeal (to me at least) that normal music doesn't.

After booting up Borderlands for the first time, I immediately went out and bought that Cage the Elephant album (from Emusic.com) which features the opening song. I was not disappointed.

I agree with Carl Sagan - besides Cage the Elephant, the music seem quite lacking during gameplay.

No theme? No sale. Did they at least include the trailer/ending credit song?

What is it with soundtracks not including the main themes lately, BlazBlue did it too.

Retail? Sweet. Wish I'd been able to get the Dead Space soundtrack via retail as well.

The only question I have is: Does it include the song playing at Lucky's?

@ClockworkHorror: I love that loop. I must have stood there for a good five minutes the first time.

One of my favorite things to do was play my own music while driving around looking for things to shoot. So I can't say I noticed the music in the game too much. But from what I have heard, it does sound alright.

Borderlands had music? I figured I would've noticed after 35 hours of playing it.

@ Mark T Sedita: Well the Crank 2 soundtrack is just a Mike Patton album so of course it's awesome :P
