It appears as if a top-tier Siren skill in
Borderlands is about as useful as a Claptrap is while on its square ass, spewing sparks about and such.
MTV Multiplayer points out that Phase Strike -- a melee attack that can be used during Phase Walk -- isn’t delivering the wicked level of damage that its description promises, even when the skill is maxed to the highest level. A bummer, right?
Right. But the
sorta good news is that Gearbox knows there’s a problem. In an
official message board thread Gearbox designer MongooseDog admitted as much, saying “We’ve been doing some investigation into Phase Strike and it does not appear to be working as intended.”
He didn’t suggest Gearbox would fix the problem, but we’re guessing the company that fixed the PS3-specific
PSN issue within days of launch won’t have a problem slinging an update or two to consumers in the near future.
Just as a note, distraught Siren people: the Beserker’s punching skills work just fine. In fact, I didn’t even know there were three other characters in the game. I’ve been too busy running up on dudes and pummeling faces -- or third testicles -- until something pops and showers my character in a spray of glorious gore.
Invader Zim references are awesome.
That is all.
Then again, I live a mile or so from Codemasters UK headquarters, and I've seen what they pay "Games Testers" - And it's not worth getting out of bed for.
It's a difficult one, i'd give my right bollock to get into the dev industry, one would imagine tester is a little bit of a foot in the door, but to drop to less than half of my income to take such a job is just impossible.
logically there's no way they wouldn't have tested the skill sets...right...RIGHT?!
Weird this slipped past though. Still a downright fantastic game.
And after reading that I think I will have to play as a Beserker.
You remember a different time than I do. I remember if your game did have a bug, you were SOL on a console because generally the fix would be quitely snuck into later versions of the game, without any sort of notice.
Off the top of my head, the Mad Dog glitch in GTA SA, Metal Gear Solid had an elevator bug, Chrono Cross had a game freeze on the first disc, Star Ocean Second had a blue screen bug, Guile's handcuffs trick in SF2, FFIV's dupe trick, FFVI's Vanish/X-Zone trick, Mega Man 3's zombie glitch, Pokemon's full of goddamn glitches, the infinite JP glitch in FFT, etc.
You get the idea. But don't let me get in the way of nostalgia.
You know, there is the chance that QA actually found the issue, reported the issue through the proper channels and the game was released anyway. It has happened before, I'm sure it will happen again.
I'm convinced that there is no such thing as a "bug-free" game.
I side with you guys.
As far as whether or not the process dropped the ball there's a good chance they were pressured to pump the game out on time and if the bug was found was overlooked amidst a crunch. Or even more possible is they knew about the bug but had contractual milestones to make and the bug wasn't discovered at a tine where they could rewrite the code and meet the milestone. So they said "Screw it, we can patch it," in which case Yiu can argue it's the fault of the director for not syaing to the publisher "Hey we've got this bug and we need an extra week," or maybe just a series of unfortunate events.
I don't see how this bug is istantly the fault of QA when we can't say for sure the bug went undisclosed.
Oh... that's why. I guess until this is patched I'll just re-roll all my skill points into a different tree. Bummer since the assassins one gives you some pretty nice Critical/Bullet Damage increase.
I’m not saying at all that it’s not possible that QA dropped the ball, but I have been on the receiving end a handful of time in which big, game-breaking issues were reported and for one reason or another, a producer justified writing off the bug using some BS excuse “most of them being listed as ‘low frequency”. In most of these cases, I could promise you that the message boards would light up with people complaining about the issue, some of the issues being very major.
[Found Error
The only "glitch" or "error" that I have encountered/found (PS3) is the fact that the gun that I equipped on my left d-pad is actually on the left button and the right is on the left..........annoying but not game breaking.
