Borderlands on PC Gamer cover ... just ... holy sh*t, son! photo

Gearbox Software has just sent over the cover of PC Gamer, where Borderlands is going to be enjoying a blowout of new information, especially regarding the dramatic shift in art style that was one of yesterday's hottest topics. According to Gearbox, the cover image is from an in-game screenshot. Go look at it. Yes, that's supposed to be in-game.

Now you can see why they didn't want to just call it "cel-shading."

If what Gearbox tells us is true, then we are potentially looking at one of the most beautiful games this generation. Again, I must comment the studio on its genius here. Within 24 hours, Borderlands went from a game that only a handful of people cared about to one of the most amazing looking titles out here ... potentially, at least.

We'll have to see the game in action to fully judge this new look, but right now I am seriously impressed. I cannot wait to get my hands on this thing and see if it plays as good as it looks. This is going straight into my "must watch" pile.

HOLY SHIT!

Rotoscoped graphics in a full-fledged "next-gen" console game? I'm in love.

I am more interested in dual-wielded fishguns :O

But, if the game looks as amazing as the one character does? I will def. have to check this out.

Am I missing an orgasm or something? The guy looks great and all, but too early to start getting all hot and bothered just because of a cover.

I didn't even notice the bit about dual-wielded fishguns.

I wish to learn more about dual-wielded fishguns.

I really hope the gameplay is as good as I imagine it to be. This game has a ton of potential. Also, I just subscribed to PC Gamer last June, and regretted my purchase somewhat, but I really like how the new editor is doing things.

Oh, I'm being told that the fishguns are in Zeno Clash, not Borderlands. Another reason to love Zeno Clash.

I was totally into this game before the art style change just because I have quite a bit of faith in Gearbox and the general idea. It looks really nice now though.

If this isn't cell-shading, what is it? Cause this still looks like cell-shading even if it looks good.

Daxelman, I imagine that article is a review of Zeno Clash. Here{/url] are images of the Zeno Clash weapons, including the fish guns. [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-kHkm7aFZ4&feature=channel_page]This video shows the fish guns in action. I think the developers have stated that weapon kick was not yet implemented int his video, though.

Huh. I guess I accidentally pressed shift when inserting a bracket. Well, you can figure it out. The link goes to the weapons, the URL for the video is in that link's name.

I need to see some in game stuff. Right now I'm reminded of how awesome the cell-shaded GTA4 promotional art was, and how disappointed I was to find out that it wasn't the art style being used in the actual game universe.

That looks damn fine. Now THIS is what would convince me to buy a new graphics card. Hopefully I won't have to, but I'm not holding my breath...

Personally I'm still not hyped about this game. I am however very interested in the comic book graphics ,that may not be the best way to describe them as comics art style vary greatly, and would enjoy many a game looking like that.
Graphics of course don't make the game, but if they are putting this much effort into the art style there is hope other element of the game are getting lots of attention. Yeah I guess I'm a bit hyped.

I find it hard to believe that it is really an in-game character model. I need some actual footage before this game retains my interest. Props to Gearbox if they manage to pull this kind of graphics off.

looks like a concept art shoop to me. its too dark to see his trigger finger, it looks like they just shopped and in-game gun onto a concept art body.

It's an interesting static image cause as you look at it you can kinda begin to see the layers to it. I suppose the real test will be to see how well it translates into a video and of course gameplay.

I've wanted to see I game that looks like it's concept art for ages.

If you have doubts on it's authenticity, if you look closely at certain areas of the image you can see a slight bit of nickeling (sharp polygon edges).

ONly a handful of people cared about? I guess everyone outside that handful doesn't know greatness when they see it. Ever since I saw their initial gameplay video, showing off Borderlands as an open world FPS with Diablo-style mixing and matching of weapon features for thousands upon thousands of weapon combinations, with squad tactics, vehicles with mounted guns, and an alien planet to explore, it's been right near the top of my DO WANT list.
This Marvel comic art style only makes me want it more.
