Borderlands DLC is coming, won't be content cut from game photo

Borderlands DLC is coming. At least two pieces of content have been confirmed by Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford, who also states that the DLC will be something we mere mortals won't expect.

"People are going to be surprised when they find out how quickly we're coming, and with what content we're coming," stated the Gearbox boss at Gamescom. "Also, we're going to watch and see what happens when the game launches, so we can have our plans affected by what our customers want more of. But we do have some plans for the initial stuff already in motion, and I'll be announcing that soon"

In addition, a later Tweet from Gearbox states that, "The first 2 Borderlands DLC packs will be all new -- not stuff that was cut or held back!" If the studio is to be believed, there will be no Namco Bandai-style disc unlocks for crappy alternative costumes. That's a good thing.

Borderlands' October 20 release date can't come soon enough. I've been waiting for this game since before everyone else got wise and took notice, patiently tapping my feet for the past several years. Really can't wait to get the thing in my hands.

@ Gartorsax: Good Spot!

That said, I wonder if the DLC will be more guns. Judging from everything I've heard about this game, it really sounds like it could use more guns and/or parts with which to make guns

/sarcasm

Even with all of the delays, I still have some seriously tough choices to make this fall.

Wow, the use of the verb "come" in his quotes is really confusing.

Anyway, I feel like I say this with every Borderlands post, but, dammit, give me this game right now.

For real Gorilla, it's reminisent of Sophie's Choice this fall.

Good to see game designers are starting to get DLC savvy. Achknowledging the existence of shitty cut content DLC and then going out of your way to clarify yours won't be is a pretty smart move. Makes them seem 'champions of the core gamers' n'all that.

@MultiJoe:
Still, kind of ridiculous hearing about DLC two months before the game is released.

I was also an early adopter of the hype for this game---even with the old art style, the second I read the Game Informer reveal article, I was enthralled. Easily my second-most anticipated game of the year (after MW2, of course).

@djnx - I don't see why it would be ridiculous. DLC has clearly become a part of game companies strategy to prolong a game's experience. Gamers expect it and developers plan for it.

@LukienAkeela: I guess because it's hard to know when its being chopped out of the game, when it's stealing debugging time, or because we simply have not even played a demo.
You'll see it here on Dtoid and on every other website, where in one article, we talk about the dangerous tendencies in DLC and in the other, we are drooling about DLC for a game that we don't know if it is any good, in the first place.

Nice to see them following along with the recent Dev fashion trend of releasing a game... and then almost immediately releasing DLC that they try to sell us on top of the price of the game.
:(

Will the DLC be something to force actual teamplay and tactics during co-op mode?

Did you pick that screenshot for me, Jim? It was my favorite one out of the pics from the last Borderlands post.
