Borderlands DLC coming to a store near you photo

Over on the GameStop website, pre-order items have cropped up for a "Borderlands Add-On Pack" on PC and Xbox 360. The product description reveals that the pack will include The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned and Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot, retailing at $19.99. The ship date is listed as February 23rd.

What isn't clear is what form the media will take. Download code, I'd wager, as I can't see why they'd spend the money on a disc. Begs the question why anyone would bother buying in-store if they're just going to have to download it when they get home. Hell, if you're playing on Xbox, you could have bought points cards months ago and just downloaded the stuff as it came out.

Anyway, it's a thing and it's happening. You know what's not happening? My dominance of Mad Moxxi. Holy Jesus in my peanut butter, we're struggling in round ten. This is exactly what I was needing out of Borderlands. You should go grab it.

That was unevitable.

I will buy it in retail. Simpler that way.

I don't know--but if it doesn't include a disc that's pretty retarded.

If it were some new edition with the DLC I'd consider it. As it stands the 10-15 minutes I played with it have almost indefinitely put it on the backburner for me. I think I might've been expecting too much though. The second coming of the Messiah it was not. Lesson learned: not even DToid hype can be trusted.

I would not learn my lesson however and procede to buy Dragon Age. -_-

The only time I've bought a retail download code is Marvel vs Capcom 2 for PS3 - and only because it came in a PS3 case with artwork. Granted, I bought it expecting to also have an instruction booklet with illustrations by Udon, but I guess they decided against that at the last minute. So, basically, I bought it for the free feelies.

Anyway, the only reason I can see people buying these retail codes is if the retailers get time-limited exclusivity. Why buy DLC at a store? Because I can get it a week earlier than anyone who waits to buy it online, that's why. Otherwise, there is no reason.

@the7k Not everyone has internet or plays games online, having DLC being sold at stores is great for people who don't care for online gaming (and intern never bring there console online) Or can't go online (because there at college or something like that)

Already have both. Zombie Island was short and meh, Underdome Riot is the opposite. I'd like some Borderlands DLC that isn't one extreme or another. Something tailored for lv 50 solo players maybe?

Ahem.

I hope this doesn't mean that they're done with the DLC all-together. I just got the stuff yesterday, but even that won't be enough. I need more for when I beat these, as I am crazy hooked to this game.

I doubt it's a code. Fallout 3, Dragon Age, Oblivion and other games have had disc versions of add-on content before for Xbox, and on PC is is insanely common to do so.

Also on PC where would a code work? There is no established structure for the game like that, there would be no purpose to the release to have a code.

Definately an expansion disc package, which is awesome because I had not gotten around to getting the DLC yet for my PC.

If its not a disc its a completely unnecessary move.

The only reason DLC should be released in hard form is for those who do not have internet, which surprisingly isn't as little as you'd think.

A code would cut down their potential profit, just because anyone who wants it can already get it if they had Live service.

Just saying.

I guess it makes sense for gifts...? But it's a bit late for the main gift-giving holiday.

I don't think you would be disappointed with Dragon Age. Bayonetta stole me away for a few days, but DA has basically been master of my 360 for the past month. It takes a bit to get going, but once it does, it's just as great as Mass Effect or Jade Empire. Just be prepared to sink A LOT of time into the game, it's a temporal black hole.

Its products like these I see as a kinda peace offering. Although it is a pointless product, at least retailers may stfu about how digital downloading is killing them. For at least a moment.

I've enjoyed the DLC allot though the friend I played borderlands with is a bit of a rage quitter so we haven't played moxxii together so much. (He may even read this comment).

But Dr. Ned was awesome, and if you havn't got a debit / credit card and don't have an xbox (which is why you didn't buy the points). I suggest you get the DLC NOW.

I don't understand why you would buy something in the store for the exact same price as buying it online from your couch.

I got Dragon Age based on the hype and I was disappointed.

Well not really disappointed per se but extremely mixed. More mixed than I think I have ever been about a videogame. I liked it because it felt like KOTOR, the game that got me into gaming, but I didn't like it for the same reason. And it seemed like every time I started to love it something popped up that threw me far back almost in the hate category.

So, yeah, I couldn't get with it. I still can't beat the stupid Archdemon and I'm in no rush to. It doesn't help that I suck at RPGs and management either. :P

@Benjo221
No Internet? Give it as a gift?

The Madd Moxxi DLC is definitely hard! I just wish they had checkpoints like in Gears of War's Horde Mode, because having to play through 20 rounds of 5 waves each (100 waves!) in one sitting is absolutely nutzo.

@Xzyliac,

The archdemon fight was really hard. I finally caved in and switched the game setting to "easy," which allowed me to beat the game.

Like I said, if you don't have internet, this is the only sensible option. PC gamers would most likely have internet and not need this in code form, and most PS3 users with internet can just buy points cards if they don't have the debit/credit required.

But yeah, its a great gift item for a fantastic game.

I wasn't talking about buying DLC on a disc. I was talking about buying DLC on a ticket. Buying a code at a retail outlet. THAT makes no damn sense.

They're codes you have to redeem ONLINE. If you don't have an online connection, you just paid for nothing.

Now, if this DLC was sold on a disc, that'd be great. I'd actually buy it that way (if I had Borderlands), but I'll bet $20 it's just going to be a code.

This could actually earn Gearbox loads of extra cash, since there are people that play games like Borderlands but don't have XboxLive. Buying this pack and installing it would allow them to play the DLC's without having to go through making a Gold account (although it is TOTALLY worth it!).
