Borderlands console patches going live soon ... real soon photo

It's a real bummer that some people are experiencing a wide variety of technical issues with Borderlands on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. I was lucky enough to not run into any of them, but from the sound of it, a fair few are deadly. Never a good thing for a time-sucking game such as this.

Over on the official Gearbox forums, there's an update on the status of the console patches. The good news is that the updates will be here soon enough.

The 360 version is getting its patch first -- look for it tomorrow at 2:00 AM CDT. As for the Borderlands PS3 update, you can plan on it arriving (also tomorrow) at 11:00 AM CDT.

Look after the break for the two lists of fixes, and if there is anything you've encountered that's not on them, let Gearbox know by going here.

Xbox 360 update notes:

  • Fixed a bug which caused players and other things in the world to appear incorrectly on clients in networked games
  • fixed a bug in which players gibbed in arena combat disappeared
  • fixed a bug which caused the dollars counter to spin continuously
  • fixed a bug that caused the digger elevator to be unusable after completing the Find Tannis mission
  • Weapon mapping to the D-pad should no longer reverse left and right
  • various localization and other text and tooltip corrections
  • The introductory quests with CL4P-TP should now always progress properly all the time
  • Lilith's Phase Strike ability now works as intended
  • Load times have been improved

Good to see they're on top of the problems. Can't wait to get home to play some more!

How about fixing the god damned online for the PC version. I've never bought a game that didn't allow me to use one of its most appealing features out of the box.

JUst got this yesterday and it is loads of great. Now that I know this I think I'll wait til tomorrow to continue my quest. I don't want to run into any game-breaking bugs.

Any news on a fix for the character deletion glitch? I heard a lot of people have been disappointed with the PC connectivity; going along with what funran said.

I've had zero issues on the 360.

The PC versions multiplayer is broken. You have to forward ports just to play and I am unable to play with any of my friends who don't know how to.

I'll buy the game once PS3 characters can be loaded simultaneously from more than one profile, like LittleBigPlanet and Resistance 2. There's actually a huge thread on the Borderlands forum about this.

Where's the patch to make the PC version not a console port?

Uhhhg. Agreed whole-heartedly. The PC version is crap and damn unplayable right now. Wasn't this game designed for the pc in the first place?

@Pedro
That's literally the only reason why I bought the 360 version.

I had to go over there and list a couple of bugs that isn't on their list. Especially with the Hunter and Bloodwing...it's starting to drive me insane. I'm at lvl 30 and near endgame and really don't want to start a new game...

I also hope it fixes matchmaking.

Honestly, there has to be more than 10 level 1-9 players on when I want to find a game for me level 36 character.

10 hrs in, level 18 on Xbox, haven't ran into a single problem. none of my friends who I play with have either. the load times between areas are already really short.

@magnalon The character data deletion problem is still under investigation, but as soon as we have a fix for it, we'll get it out to players. It's obviously very high priority, but we had a few other fixes ready and didn't want to delay rolling patches out.

No matter what platform you play on, it's a good idea to back up your saves periodically (this is not a final fix, just a suggestion to help out in the meantime) - this way, in the event you experience a problem with your character, you can at least continue from a recent point. We'll get this fixed as soon as we possibly can.

Gearbox plans to continue support for Borderlands on all platforms, and you can see the issues we are working on with frequent updates here: http://gbxforums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php?t=77748

Honestly the PC version isn't broken at all for me. I guess if you are the type of guy who wholly relies on multiplayer (which I hear doesn't work too well on PC) then you're screwed, but luckily for me Borderlands is HELLA fun on it's own.

I do feel like A LOT of the game feels too "consolized", in the way the menu controls (no middle mouse button?), the driving controls, etc. It just doesn't flow well with a kboard+mouse for me. On the other hand, the gameplay itself, performance, and all the "major" important bits are excellent deep and fun. So normally I would bitch up a storm but it's been done well enough in those departments that I can forgive the many small GUI/control issue bugs I've had.

For unofficial polls sake, me and the wife have played 23 leveling up deep playing for hours at a time in co-op on two different 360s and over LIVE and we haven't any dropped games, zero freezing, no damaged or lost saves.
Really, other than the occasional, but rare, pop up game has been fine. It's one of the smoothest games I can remember over LIVE. If there's even lag, it's not noticable. Don't know how we seemed to somehow miss all these problems.

So nothing to address the show-stopping framerate issues toward the end of the game? Lame.

I kinda wish they'd put the PC version first, especially since we had to wait an extra week for some bullshit 'optimization' that was never done.

You can change the PC version ini file to allow a couple of things like using the scroll wheel to scroll up and down menus ( instead of page up and page down ) and I think you can use spacebar instead of enter for confirmation. I think its just a matter of mapping confirmations and cancels on the menus to be usable with the mouse cause its annoying to switch between enter, backspace and mouse every time you go into a menu, specially when you need to quickly switch a weapon before you are dead.

The only glitches I have come across were a couple where quests wouldn't trigger properly (I think it only happened when I co-op'd the Nine Toes mission with a friend, fixed with a reset), and a glitch that somehow caused the Pandora Dog Millionaire achievement to not unlock even though I had a million in gold sitting in my inventory at the time. Other then that I haven't had any problems at all, this game has just been amazing to me. Though what is this Hunter/Bloodwing glitch I hear of? My Bloodwing seems to work beautifully...

I haven't had a problem yet on the PS3 version (shocker I know). So i'm a little cautious in updating as, knowing my luck, it could fuck up my game.

Is there a fix for the glitch where you start playing the game co-op with your girlfriend but now she won't let you play the game without her yet doesn't want to play enough for your liking because she's too busy watering plants and writing articles for online publications?

Still avoiding online until the patch the save file corruption / skill / item loss issues. I'm still enjoying the single player game, but I might pick up an MS memory card anyway. Couldn't hurt to back up my save games in any event.

So far, I'm having a great time with this game and am definately glad I chose the 360 version over PC. I may change my tune if they ever release some modding tools, but right now I'm a happy vault hunter.

I haven't had any major issues with this game but I did have some problems with the 9 Toes elevator and a friend getting stuck in it. This game is damn near flawless. I play on 360 and I have the game installed to my hard drive for faster load times. I love Borderlands!!!

Thank you Gearbox for being one of the good developers and supporting your product with timely patches and open dialog with your customers. I wish more developers were like Gearbox.

I will add that other than some frame rate issues (ps3 version) I haven't run into any bugs myself.
