Usually I don't like to do news posts on box art, as it seems fairly redundant. However, it's not often that you get box art as brilliant as this. This is the cover for Gearbox Software's excitingly gorgeous FPS Borderlands, and I think you'll agree that it perfectly encapsulates the sense of style and downright coolness that the roleplaying shooter seems to exude.
Check out the gallery for the full image, and remember that two Texas-based Destructoid readers get to play the game on Friday. I'm quite envious of them, since this is one of my most hotly anticipated games of the year. Seriously, if the game itself wasn't enough to tempt me, box art this ludicrously brilliant certainly seals the deal.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I might just have to buy it based solely off that.
Oh, and five bucks says SOMEBODY gets bitchy over it and claims it 'supports suicide' or some one-dimensional bullshit.
I do feel as though I should make a joke about the hand gun being appropriately replaced with something more adjacent to my pants. Oh internet, you do bring out the worst in me.
Box Art of The Year!!!
Box art usually doesn't impress me a whole lot, but wow. This is actually very cool. Can't wait for this game to come out already.
If that's the case, Dead Space woulda been regulated.
This cover is eye-catching and aesthetically appealing. Therefore as a marketed product, it wins.
GIVE WALLPAPERS NOW!
All in all, I'll give it a C. It's an awesome and surprisingly original idea for cover art, but the execution isn't particularly brilliant.
I just keep imagining that I'll shoot someone at point blank range but the number crunching will end up giving me a little floating "miss" message above the enemies head.
My understanding is that it is a normal shooter at its core, but you get xp for kills a la COD4, which you can then spend to get special abilities. I've been thinking of it as a first-person Diablo II with guns.
As soon as I found out it had EXPERIENCE it in (Like Deus Ex 1st person shooter with exp) I became overjoyed as it has two of my most favorite styles of games wrapped up into one bundle of joy.
I hope this game is good!
