Borderlands 2: Hey, it could happen photo

At various points during the later stages of Borderlands I found myself thinking about the possibilities of a sequel, hoping that the game sold well enough to warrant a follow-up. The fact that I let my mind wander out of the moment says a lot about the bugs in the game, but it also speaks to the raw awesomeness of midget-punching shooter RPG. I’m not alone in my thinking, my desire for a sequel, and the good news is that Gearbox Studios believes there’s a chance Borderlands 2 could happen -- the key being a cold hard business decision and consumer desire for another.

“Yes, I can probably confirm that there’s a chance of a Borderlands 2,” creative director Mike Neumann told VG247 in a recent interview when asked about the possibilities of a Borderlands 2. “I mean, with anything, especially a new IP, if people want more and you can make more, and everybody can make money and do good business there, it obviously makes really good sense to do that.”

Neumann then added that DLC is on the way and no substantial talks have been had other than the “water cooler” variety, which I’m sure would hilarious to overhear.

“So yeah,” Neumann said after revealing that Gearbox loves the “franchise,” if everything makes sense, Borderlands 2 seems like a no-brainer to me.”

Nothing confirmed yet, but it's obvious Gearbox is willing to look into creating a sequel. You guys want one, right?

Hell fuckin' yeah I want one!

And I'm SPUER optimistic about the phrase "I can probably confirm the chance of Borderlands 2." Does that mean I can pre-order yet or what?

More, please!

A sequel, or at least a serious expansion which raises level cap with new skills, enemies, areas, etc. . .

If they actually stuck a decent story in the sequel, it would be a plus...

I'd like to see a sequal. Aslong as they continue the story, 'cause the end in the first one was a bit of a punch in the sack.
First things first, I'll see where the DLC goes, if it's just more maps/enemies/guns. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but yeah, the lack of story was the thing that brought down the game for me a bit.

I really am loving Borderlands. I'm up to about level 35 and am almost done with the main storyline. I can see where the game shines, and also where it falters, but I feel like Gearbox is the kind of developer that listens to it's community, and won't release some half assed expansion. Hopefully in the next iteration we could see a more expansive story, and definitely a better trading mechanic for co-op.

i would appreciate them issuing additonal patches for the first game, which is plagued with issues on every platform, before talking about a sequel.

My only real problem with the game is that they put a lot of effort into developing character background and storylines, only to not have it in the game at all. Never is there mention of Lilith's quest for another Siren. Also, I feel like arenas and duels were just tacked on. It pisses me off online when there are three Rolands running around trying to duel me while I'm fighting off a swarm of badass spiderants. I'd rather Borderlands 2 be single player. :/

I keep hearing about the bug issues with the game but I've been lucky enough to experience none on my first two playthroughs.

My only issue with the game is it needs a stronger story, though they built a nice foundation to work from in a sequel.

Sounds good to me. I could do with a bit more character customization, but otherwise my complaints are rather trivial. Oh, also don't destroy my character after playing for 4 hours with my friends. That sucks.

First they'll wanna milk the first one with DLCs. But I'll be awaiting BL2 eagerly, as there is a lot of room for improvement.

Additional customization, maybe armor, custom weapons? A story that doesn't end with a giant EFFYEW? That's all I want, anything else is a bonus.

Yes please MOAR!!! But this time allow me to pick up ammo, health, and money by walking over it.

Guns, sheilds, Class Perks should remain the way they are.

Seeing some "lack of story" complaints. I think if they want to add replayability, they need to add more TYPES of items. One thing that made Diablo so compelling is you needed a sweet helm that would jive well with your gloves, which of course were necessary to carry your shield, which gave you awesome resistances. I really like Borderlands, but I think that it would be that much more addictive if you could get more types of defense than just shields.

Also, I'm seeing some glitch complaints. I haven't encountered a single one for PC and I'm level 40. However, I haven't played multiplayer either. Is this where a lot of the glitches are?

Great game, too short.

Make it longer or have more open areas to explore and cosider it sold.

My only complaint about Borderlands was the tissue paper thin story. I don't even know why they added backstory to any of the characters. It didn't have anything to do with the story other than to serve as a plot device to have them at Pandora.

I'd be more prone to buying the sequel if they actually had a decent ending. The ending to this game was god awful, pointless, and really ruined my boner to continue playing. I mean yea, it's diablo for fps, but come on, they could have at least put in a decent ending instead of something that lasted about 45 seconds and was like GAME OVER good job, eat a dick. Thanks gearbox...

I still haven't beaten it yet, but I would love a sequel, especially if they address the concerns people had with the current one.

Hey Brad - you need a bit of a lesson on game dev economics my friend.
For all that Gearbox want to make a sequel, they have only sold approx 550 - 600k copies worldwide to date. [and that's taking VGchartz regularly over-inflated numbers at face value]. Borderlands was an expensive game, developed for 3 years. they will need nothing less than 2m units JUST to break even, let alone get a profit back. Their sales 'hot' period is now over now that the big boys are destroying xmas sales [mw2, ass2, l4d2, uncharted]. basically for as much as i love the team and this awesome game, they're never reaching 2m or even 1.5m.

in fact i would prefer a stream of expansions and DLC, only because those wouldn't supose such a great wait as a new whole game

PS:I hear the boycotters getting near...

I want Borderlands 2 instead of DLC. Well, I'd like them to put a couple of small teams on DLC, and have them produce a bit of fun content every month or two for a while, while the rest of the company works on a sequel. There are just too many big changes that Borderlands needs (particularly story and character wise) to deal with properly in DLC.

game needs melee weapons and some form of weapon creation system. like using all the parts and brands etc. but you buy the parts you want and build guns yourself. more vehicles. maybe flying ones.

As long as they keep the gameplay relatively the same. If there's anything Borderlands does perfectly, it's its ability to keep you hooked to the game for many many hours. Not sure about melee weapons and armor as additions though, Brick is already a melee weapon (currently doing a Brawler build, I'm literally in Berserk mode about every 20 seconds) and armor is a maybe.

Personally, I don't care about the story, but I would like to see more characterization. I thought Borderlands would be the kind of game with such great characters that you wouldn't care about the story. Too bad most of them are paper-thin in personality. Maybe have some in-game conversations between characters if you're playing co-op? I'd think it'd be hilarious to see what a conversation between Brick and Mordecai would be like.

I want more Borderlands more than I want anything else. Borderlands > MW2. Even though I'm loving the hell out of both games I just had to let you know where I stand. Borderlands is my GOTY and we need another one!
