Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

Developed by Bizarre Creations (makers of Geometry Wars) and published by EA, Boom Boom Rocket will be the first rhythm-based game to grace Xbox Live Arcade. It's going to set you back 800 Microsoft Points and will first launch in the U.S. Canada, and Europe on Wednesday. If for whatever reason you don't live in any of those fine regions, Boom Boom Rocket will be available in the near future in Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand.

Here's a snippet from the press release:

Players trigger rockets to the beat of the music while traveling through a 3D cityscape. The better the player times the explosions, the more spectacular the fireworks effect. The fireworks are choreographed to 10 original tracks created by Ian Livingstone, who recently scored "Batman Returns" and "Project Gotham Racing 2."

Game Features

*Two single player gameplay modes – Normal and Speed
*Two single console multiplayer head-to-head modes – Battle and Endurance
*Practice Mode
*Freestyle mode – No target line or scoring, just mash buttons to create cool fireworks shows
*Earn up to 12 Achievements and 200 Gamerscore points
I can't say I've ever heard of a game that was able to fuse fireworks and music into gameplay before, so this should definitely be worth checking out. Is anyone else out there going to play it blindfolded?

I'll probably play the hell out of this. I'm a sucker for a good rhythm game.

Between Elite Beat and Guitar Hero, I'm full on rhythm games for now.

Awesome. I never thought we'd see a Fantavis... Wait, this ISN'T a sequel? And it's $10?

Uh, no thanks Bizarre. You guys keep on keepin' on, but my money stays right here for now. We don't take kindly to strangers comin' up and droppin' PS2 clones on our three-sixties... Nosir, we don'ts at all...

(cocks gun)

Honestly, why is this a game? This is like a glorified tech demo with bonus interactivity. For not having some forethought to include custom soundtrack capabilities is retarded and has proven this title to be ultimately useless. Especially if some frat kid can beat it with his eyes covered.

I'll probably download this one day, but for now im totally engrossed in Puzzle Quest. Poor guitar Hero II and GRAW 2 have been neglected due to it, no doubt Fantarocket will go unplayed as well

This should tide me over while I wait for a non-broken Guitar Hero! I'm excited.

This looks like it might be fun, and I do have some points laying around begging to me used...

Agree with Jamesways, bring on Double Dragon already. And Gyruss, while you're at it.

I agree...kinda pricey, here. The demo was fun but uh, the hard mode was really...how do I put this? Hard.

As for waiting for GHII dl content...don't bother. Run. Far away.

I just remember playing Geometry Wars in front of my friends the first time. You'd think they were all on an acid trip. Mesmerized.

This looks a bit a of rip really. 400 points maybe, 800... kiss my plums.

As for Double Dragon, done a bit of forum searching last night when I heard this was out. Someone actually emailed the guys doing the port and they assured him that the game was finished and ready for a live wednesday as soon as MS pull their finger out.

Seems it's getting listed as early May around a few places now too.

Man, Microsoft is sticking their green shaft up peoples ass. I bought off eBay a 1600 MSP since I will NOT trust ANY of my credit cards to Microsoft and got Geometry Wars. Very cool game for a good price (400 points) but now we receive a game that while its good it just CANT compare to Geometry Wars and on top of that it cost 800 points...

The only decent game that cost 400 points is Geometry Wars. Others games for this price are Pac Man and Defender and Paperboy that you get WAY cheaper in compilations like Namco museum and the such. Street Fighter 800MSP?! The broken in pieces Lumines that if you get it complete will cost ya like $35 bucks?!

Check out Game Informer April 2007 issue, page 32. The map packs (lost planet, Rainbow Six, Gears of War) and other content is supposed to be FREE and they will charge you. Free content is being withheld from consumers to make gamers accustomed to paying for them.

I know they are ultimately to make money but charging you for some gamer pictures and wallpaper?!?! Now thats dirt low...

What happened to the special weekend promotions? what about a day when prices are cut to half?

I invite people to boycott this crap. Get a 500 card and get Geometry Wars and thats it. What to do with the other 100MSP? I dunno shove them up your ass, make a sandwich with them, or get a Nick Busby picture pack... Oh still you would have 20MSP... Oh well...

Just what I wanted for my 360...
A crappy fireworks simulator.

Dear Microsoft:
Your system will only "print money" if the content is compelling. Crappy horse armor, a shitty fireworks game that sucked as a PS2 launch title, and overpriced Guitar Hero songs won't help you at all.

Sincerely yours,
CasualWeaponry, a proud Wii60 owner

gonna get hated on for this, but i've been looking forward to this one for a while, bought it last night, and i think it was worth every damn cent. great songs (mostly), the difficulty ramps up enough so i'll be playing for a long, long while, and it's just plain fun. sure, it could have used more than 10 measly tracks, but eh, it's the awesomeness anyway.

to each their own, i suppose. i love it.

is the price of 800 points EA's doing sinc ethey published this or Microsofts. I think the demo for this one will do me just fine :)

This demo blew. I almost bought the game blind but decided randomly to try the demo. Good thing I did! This game is the retarded stepchild of Fantavision and DDR. All it did was remind me why I hate rhythm games and how EA can seem to taint the credibility of any game company, even Bizarre. After Geometry Wars I figured this was a sure bet. Glad I didn't blow $10 on this crap.

bought it, love it. did you guys even give the game a chance? try mastering the songs on hard mode... a lot of fun. I don't even like DDR and I could give a shit less about Fantavision this game is tight. $10 is a fair price in my opinion. Then again, I'm not dirt poor.
