I wish people would up in arms about a genuinely franchise-ruining shit game like DMC. Konami are well Konami but at least their not Crapcom.
I've actually never played a Silent Hill game but this game is one of the reasons I might pick up a Vita soon.
@pencoin you are doing exactly what these jackasses are doing... Lol. Attacking a game that isn't out yet that really is disconnected from previous entries. Why is it such a hard concept to just not play the game if you don't want to? It's that attitude that I hate... "I don't like it so it sucks horribly and no one should ever play this game" besides the fact that no one has played it.
I imagine that whoever typed that last quote, suddenly popped up their collar, put on some shades, drank a can of RC Cola and then double pointed at the camera after typing it.

I hate it when people immediately pour galleons of hate onto any new game in a franchise just because they look different. I get the feeling those people also want New Super Mario Bros. games to stop, or also want Facebook games to stop copying Zynga. I also hate having to remind everyone them that WayForward kick ass, as does Ninja Theory and whatever other studio is designing a game that isn't a near remake of the previous game. CEL-SHADED GRAPHICS MEAN IT ISN'T A REAL ZELDA GAME!
In a way it does get tiring when a publishers try something different only to get a familiar name slapped onto it. Square Enix is guilty of this. Maybe it turns out good which then makes me happy. I myself find Silent Hill to be a bit on the tiresome side.
Where were these angry fans when Homecoming was released? That game deserved shit thrown at it, not this new game.

At first when this was announced I was rather against it. But now that I've come to the idea that Silent Hill as a franchise has more or less run it's course and that it's time to come up with a new title, I'm not so against it.
In fact, I might just go out and buy the damn thing just to piss off all the "real hardcore" silent hill fans. I've loved this series but this fan base is quickly devolving into the Sonic fan base, another one I sadly belong too. >.>'

I really don't care what they do, Silent Hill is pretty much creatively exhausted at this stage. Even if they tried really damn hard to make another Silent Hill 2 it would only be a facsimile of the original.

While I was surprised at the direction this game was taken, I'm not going to freak out over it. I might play it after reading some reviews and opinions but its not going to destroy my world if I don't play everything with Silent Hill on it.

I can understand the fan rage to a degree. Sure, this new game might be a great dungeon crawler, but not everyone who likes survival horror also likes dungeon crawlers, so it won't be a good game for them no matter how well it turns out as a dungeon crawler.
Also, Konami has been dropping the ball with SH for years. Since about the second game. There's a lot of SH fans starved for a new, GOOD, SH game. Instead we're getting this.
It's a LOT like Capcom cancelling Mega Man Legends 3 and releasing a crappy iOS game for Mega Man's anniversary. Not what most of them wanted, meanwhile nothing on the horizon for what they do want.
Of course, it gets amped up with internet rage and hyperbole.
While I expect you'd see a similar reaction no matter what, if Silent Hill were thriving in the survival horror arena and this little spin-off were released then I doubt you'd see an outcry to quite this degree among SH fans. Sure, there'd be some but most wouldn't care if their survival-horror itch were being scratched.

Worst. Fanboys. EVER. Almost as bad as the DmC "fans." The only way to please some fans is to make the same game over and over again and put a new number or subtitle at the end of the title. People whine over and over again for publishers to stop playing it safe and do something different, and the minute it actually happens people want nothing more for it than to burn in the fires of hell where it apparently belongs. It's "fans" like these that make me wish these games would just come out so we all can find out, once and for all whether or not these games are good.
I think your missing the point Jim. Fans aren't angry that the gameplay is different or because of the visual style in and of itself. They're angry because the "tone" is completely different from the main series. Most spin-offs - while featuring different gameplay mechanics - still maintain the same tone of the main series. The use of the "Silent Hill" title is an obvious cash grab to try and profit off a stagnant series. Honestly Silent Hill should just die anyway, the location has completely lost everyone's interest.
I have no opinion one way or the other...
... But I WOULD prefer a decent survival horror Silent Hill again. Last one I really enjoyed was Silent Hill 3.

It doesn't look like the greatest game ever made but it at least looks good enough to keep me interested in it. If it turns out well, I'd be very tempted by a portable game in the Silent Hill universe.

The fact is isn't like the other games is the very basis of the bitching. There's absolutely nothing stylistically in common with Silent Hill in this game. Konami basically just took framework of a generic hack and slash game and shoved SH into it.

There is a difference between calling out a company for releasing a broken, horrible product, and attacking a game because it's not what you want it to be in terms of genre.. It's a game. This happens to many franchises. I give you Persona Arena. Maybe if people weren't such stuck up assholes they could understand that this has nothing to do with the main games. It's just a fun way to be in the world with familiar characters and experience something new.
