Bone up on your Simlish, Sims coming back to consoles photo

In today's Electronic Arts earnings call, CEO John Riccitiello confirmed that The Sims would be coming to consoles again in fiscal 2011 (which runs from April 2010 to March 2011).

While no details were provided, given the history of The Sims on consoles, one can expect the title (or titles) to provide a slightly different take on the series than its PC counterpart. The last full-on title in The Sims series to hit consoles was 2004's The Urbz: Sims in the City. A spin-off of The Sims, the MySims, has recently found life on the Wii and and Nintendo DS.

In 2009, Electronic Arts releases The Sims 3 for PC and Mac; our moles already tell us The Sims 4 (built from the ground-up) is already in development. Like I said, bone up on your Simlish.

"Soo soon!"

One of my first DS games was The Sims. Geez, that seems like a long time ago.

Well The Sims would be right at home on the Wii at least, it's pretty close to mouse controls.

Tia Maa! Dis graw isst fraderjay!

This has the potential to be good, as long as they play directly to the strength of the console rather than trying to merely port The Sims 3 to a controller-based, lower-powered format.

Essentially, they're going to need to utilise the online services in clever new ways; co-operative gameplay, the ability to visit other people's creations, instant sharing across your friendlist, that sort of thing.

Sadly I'm expecting a half-assed port, a-la the first wave of last generation's Sims offerings, but it'd be nice if they could get this right for once. And then find some way of making an actual game with the Spore engine.

If they want to make a second Urbz game, I'll be all over that shit.

So is it a real Sims game? Or that watered down, mess that's been coming out for the handhelds.
