Bombernauts is a lovely mix of Smash Bros. and Bomberman

What a pleasant little surprise Bombernauts is turning out to be. It's an online multiplayer game in which players try to knock one another off a platform that can be chipped away with bombs. So many bombs. In fact, there isn't a limit to how many can be thrown. The part I most like the sound of is that, once slain, you become a ghost that can throw ghost bombs and, after a successful kill, you'll return to the battlefield as a zombie. Last one standing wins.

Bombernauts is being made by Tyler Glaiel of Closure fame, if you can believe it. The team also has artist Sven Ruthner and composer Danny Baranowsky on board (that I can believe). Although online multiplayer is the focus, local play is on the team's to-do list, as are custom game modes and power-up customization "similar to the Super Smash Bros. series."

If you're liking the sound of this all, the game will be released on Steam next year.
