Bomberman used to promote anti-Nazi violence? photo

A German ex-politician has been charged with invoking violent acts against fascists after producing an anti-Nazi poster with a picture of Bomberman on it. The poster shows Bomberman holding a bomb disguised as a cake, with the lit fuse acting as a candle. It's accompanied by the message: "Kein Zuckerschlecken für Nazis" (roughly translated as "No Cakewalk for Nazis").

On October 24 of last year, a demonstration of Nazis and a demonstration of anti-Nazis took place. As you might have already guessed, the two philosophically opposed sides did not settle their differences with reasonable arguments and well-presented debate. It was a little bit more violent than that, and the authorities are blaming the Bomberman poster.

That's right. Martin Budich has been charged for using the poster to foster an "aggressive" atmosphere among the anti-Nazi protestors, because of course, without the poster, there would have been no conflict whatsover and they'd all be holding hands and singing with the fascists right now. Budich doesn't even play videogames, and claims he merely wanted to show "the whole spectrum of opposition." Authorites instead have decided that the use of Bomberman encourages protestors to carry concealed weapons in what would otherwise have been a totally peaceful counter-demonstration.

This is the second time Budich has been convicted simply for making a poster. He once used the image of a cartoon character holding a slingshot, which was also encouraging violent acts in the eyes of the law. I hear Germany also wants to arrest everyone who worked on Tom & Jerry cartoons, for earnestly implying that we should all hit cats with anvils.

What exactly was wrong with that Bomberman+anti-Nazi poster again? Did he use crayons instead of felt markers, the ones which get you high from sniffing the tips? Geez, tough crowd, that Germany.

If you've ever seen any of the old propaganda cartoons made by the Nazis which depicted Jews in a terrible light, and helped cultivate the fear and hatred that a whole generation of Germans fostered, then perhpas it's easier to understand why modern day Germany is aware of the power of imagery upon the ignorant. I agree that blaming the poster for violence is essentially bullshit, but you have to understand the German's sensitivity around stuff like this. They have engaged in a darker side of human nature that most of us could never imagine or dream of. Most of us have never been involved in the attempted systematic genocide of an entire race of peoples, and this guilt that every German carries, is a burden upon their every action to this day.

"Zuckerschlecken" is just an amusing word in and of itself.

Wait, what are we talking about again?

Why do people love to demonize and blame Nazis for EVERYTHING?! Yea sure, they murdered a lot of people, but besides that, they were pretty cool people to hang around. I mean how can you not love the Nazi fashion?

First the whole "Killerspiele" debate after the rampage in Winnenden, then the discussion about banning paintball and now this. It's ridiculous. Sometimes I hate living here in Germany. I remember the Zuckerschlecken posters. I have a flyer from the demonstration:

Also, it's pretty common in Germany to take videogame characters for political flyers, even more absurd characters like these:

Anyway, when I first read the headline of this article I thought it was about copiright infringement, but no, it's another stupid act of german authorities. I hate this country.

"the two philosophically opposed sides did not settle their differences with reasonable arguments and well-presented debate"

HAH - the day Nazis listen to rational arguments based on science is the day the sun rises in the West. Nazis almost NEVER listen to all the genetic and scientific evidence disproving their incredibly out-dated and silly beliefs. Most Nazis can't be reasonsed with - they're just racists who love to hate, who love to bash, who love violence and death. Did you ever wonder why the Neo-nazi groups only attract dead-beat teenagers who are usually uneducated, already violent and poor?

Germany is being too sensitive. It's just a poster - and one showing Bomberman standing up against fascists. Not that they really need to be stood up against - they're a dying, losing group that lost so DISMALLY in WW2, that were beaten SO BADLY that the German People know better than to go down that foolish road again.

You should just have a recurring article that goes up every few weeks, with the headline "German government is ridiculous." Doesn't even need any body text.
