In the first of what will be a series of developer diaries, the folks behind Bodycount cut through the nonsense: this is a game about guns and shooting things with said guns.
They're calling it a "really intense arcade shooter," and saying they're taking it back to the basics. What this means is fewer guns, but more attention to how those guns feel in your hands. You ever fire a gun in real life? It's a pretty intense experience; the weight and kickback of even the smallest piece leaves an impression. That, along with a whole bunch of stuff exploding, seems to be where they're going with the first-person shooter.
Bodycount is out August 26 for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. I'm actually about to fire up some preview code to see how these guns feel, so expect more about that next week.
Hmm. Actually looks more interesting than I thought when I first heard about it. I didn't realize the entire environment was so highly destructible. I'm definitely going to need to give this a rental.
Looks good. I like that there is no ADS. I'm quite honestly tired of CoD-style sight aiming in shooters. In this it's just good old-fashioned hip firing.
It's a spiritual successor to Black which was billed as "gun porn". Now I like shooting me a piece like any other American but I've never torn up concrete walls and cause buildings to collapse with a small arm. I guess we have different experiences.
Kinda wish Body Count was doing a song for this game and not Gears of War. I missed out on Black but this looks pretty cool.
@mradydixon: ...most devs look like this. Working on a game is tantamount to working from home, you don't have to shave(17-hour days) OR dress fancy(t-shirt and jeans are the most comfortable for such 17-hour days). Unless, you know something that I don't. Please show me to your world where SUPERMODELS dressed in SUPERMODEL clothing make videogames!
Regardless of how they normally dress, this was clearly a staged performance, and their unshaven faces and casual clothes were to make them look more rugged.
Unless, of course, they also stand around in an empty warehouse full of graffiti and spotlights while they work. In that case, you'd be absolutely correct.
Looks fun, but how low can the on screen targeting reticle get? It's just like Halo, which has always had the same issue (not that Halo is bad at all, it's brilliant, but the way the reticle is below centre has always bugged me)
I didn't realize this was coming out so soon, which sucks, cause that probably means I'm not gonna get my hands on it because I've got so many more games I'm eager for.
Piss.
Probably end up being one of those solid games that just gets fed to the dogs cause of timing.
This looks like fucking fun. I will prob rent it then maybe buy. I love how developers cram very god damn shooter in the months of aug, sep, oct, and nov. How am i supposed to get into one when there are so many. i buy all oh god butt lick
The entire point of my bit of mocking was to say that dev diaries are absolutely, positively ridiculous and predictable. Watch anything by id, Epic, etc. and you'll see the exact same formula: a bunch of "rugged" dudes posing in a dark, bleak room for a close-up, slow-panning camera, intermixed with clips of the game. It's just a bit absurd at this point, and I'd like to see somebody try something different.
I mean, seriously, look at this:
It looks like the opening of a fucking Linkin Park video. THAT'S all I'm saying.
@Andy: I never didn't get what you were saying, which is why I responded with my own ridiculous bit with the whole 'supermodels' thing... can we hug it out now?
Oh and I love dev diaries, it tells us more about the game and what went into making it, Linkin Park video openings, be damned!
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Other Dudes: "Duuuuude."
Second Dude: "Dude, totally! And we can, like, do a ton of close-ups and shit!"
Other Dudes: "DUUUDE!"
Third Dude: "Yeah, dudes! And we'll totally put a ton of bright lights in the background and not shave for a few days!"
Other Dudes: "GNARLY, DUDE!"
Fourth Dude: "Totally gnarly! And we just HAVE to wear our jeans and t-shirts, dudes!"
Other Dudes: "DUDE! DUDE! DUUUUUUUUUUDE!"
First Dude: "Dude."

Quoting the first sentence of the article: "In the first of what will be a series of developer diaries"
I still love you Dixon-san, but *raspberries*
Dude, I get that.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I love 'em too. In fact, I'm way more interested in this game now that I've watched it.
Guess I just misunderstood your comment at me. Oh, internet.
