In a recent interview, Mistwalker producer Hironobu Sakaguchi has laid down the foundation for the possibility of taking the Blue Dragon series forward to an online, MMO-like space. The subtle hint:
"We're in talks with Microsoft about development of a sequel," Sakaguchi told Japanese site Gpara.com. "Specifics aren't finalised, but there's a possibility that it will be produced as an online title."
Always in need of wooing the Asian market, an online fantasy Xbox 360-focused MMO via Blue Dragon could be quite the success for Microsoft and is surely an idea too sweet to pass up. While most of us here in Americaland may not be down with the idea (or we might, who knows?), countries in Asia could definitely warm up to the concept quite easily. It can't be any worse than Final Fantasy XI, right?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
No shit. Phantasy star doesn't cut it.
In other words : I fully back that statement up.
I personally couldn't care less. The MMO market is extremely over saturated, so unless it tries very hard to be different, I see no reason to care. Monthly fees FTL.
know why I hate MMOs? there is always some bigger loser out there with less of a life than me who can invest 20 out of 24 hours a day to grinding.
I don't understand the appeal.
Not a real big RPG guy, but I'm looking forward to playing this game. Can't give you five reasons why, but who's counting anyway?
Dude, I'm just going to come out and say it. Cooking Mama sucks so bad, and is so fucking boring. I can't figure out how any culture, even little kids, could enjoy something like this. I'll bet if MS published a game where you put yen in a used-panty-dispenser while schoolgirls with pigtails cheered you on from local karaoke bars, the game would be a hit.
Stupid bullshit Japanese games with their boring gameplay and gay-assed character design. I have an idea. Since the PS3 really sucks so far, why not make it the Eastern console and let the west have the 360. Devs can then focus all their efforts on making a dedicated game instead of one that needs to be ported to another system, increasing the quality of the games on both consoles. If it's a mega hit, then port it to the other console. That way, everyone wins. Fuck Japan.
...ok... I'm better now... =)
Replace the word "japanese" with "western", "boring" with "mindless" and add the qualifier "in the 'we're butch' way" to "gay-assed" and you could be a japanese person talking about american games. As for the ps3 becoming the eastern game console and 360 for american games, I can very much see that happening.
