Typically computers only have one motherboard.. but okay.
So anyone who is somehow hitting 5 digits a year is DOING IT WRONG.
I live in eastern europe (a banana respublic to most of u) and i pay 20$ a month for 300 mbits/s fiber optics connection with no download limits.
$2,385 dollars for a 3DS, Wii, PS3, Xbox 360 w/ Kinnect, and a $1500 PC (with all the assumed accessories, mouse, keyboard, speakers, monitor, etc.)
$600 dollars for a 42" ish LED-LCD TV 1080p (HDMI thrown in here as well)
$200 for miscs. costs (Xbox Live, Internet, an extra controller this was a figure we kinda had disagree to agree upon)
$3000 dollars for 15 games per each system at $40 (A total of 5 systems so 75 games in total) This was chosen as it makes the total value of the games roughly %20 greater than the value of the console, a great amount.
In total $6,185, again an entirely arbitrary amount, easily reducible by as much as half without so much as even a bat of an eye. 17k is just ridiculous.
Want to spend £1 on a phone game?
Want to spend £thousands on consoles, accessories, games, chairs, TV's, etc etc? Go for it.
I heard you like gaming, so we added motherboards to your motherboard to soup up your system.
Clearly, the numbers are inflated to reflect ultra high end, but realistically if you had to buy *everything* today to start over completely, 7-10k is not the slightest bit unrealistic.
Hell, I spent at least 5k last year in gaming stuff and I already have most of the stuff they call out.
Other then that, I don't know about "What's great about gaming today is that it costs whatever you want to spend on it." Because I'm trying to jimmy my budget around to make the Vita work in it and I'm not feeling very "what I WANT to spend on it" about it, when I HAVE to buy a memory card (not bitching, just making a point) or because I feel like things to protect the screen are necessary to protect my investment. Optional still, but necessary to me in the long run.
You're not an American if you're not a 500 lb, meth addicted-hoarder.
You're not a financial analyst until you've made a complete fool of yourself with incoherent, plucked from your ass estimates on the cost of gaming.
