Blood of Bahamut confirmed for DS photo

Yesterday we shed light on a mysterious new project from Square Enix known as Blood of Bahamut. As the official site continues to count down, Weekly Jump Magazine has officially revealed that Blood of Bahamut will be a brand new DS RPG.

Because the DS needs more RPGs!

This new game will feature four-player co-op, as warriors and sorcerers do battle against giant monsters. Like idiots, the people of this game's world built cities on the backs of sleeping beasts. These creatures have now woken up, and housing prices are being driven considerably down ... probably.

Ibuki is the main protagonist, a member of the Giganto race -- named so because his people reside on the back of a creature who goes by the same moniker. He will be joined by Yui, a childhood friend who is fighting to protect her town after seeing the monsters wake up.

Squeenix is due to show more at the Jump Festa event in late December. Stay tuned on Monday, when the Blood of Bahamut site officially opens.

A new take on "scratching that itch you just can't reach" is what this is.

Sounds like an interesting concept.

I think the game would be much cooler if it was on an HD console. I don't think a small DS screen could give justice to cities built on the back of giant monsters.

I wonder if it will be an interesting concept...

Anyway, sounds pretty spiffy.

I was sincerely hoping that this would be a port of Bahamut Lagoon that'd have a chance of finally getting released in the US. It's a glaring omission in my Strategy library.
Oh well, I'm sure this will be wonderful too. I just hope they don't jam too much uneccesary touch control nonsense down its bum. I dont' care what the rest of the world says, The World Ends with You was abysmal. I am not hoping for a repeat.

I was hoping this would be a Bahamut Lagoon port/sequel as that game was a bit more fun to me than the FF Tactics games. The dragon feeding was simplistic yet utterly addictive.

The idea is...weird. Hey, it's japan. Still, I would have rather seen something like this on 360/PS3. The visuals for this could have been AMAZING.

Why would they put such an ambitiously artistic story on the DS (or ANY handheld fro that matter)?

I mean, that picture on the teaser site is crazy awesome, so now, instead of getting MORE of that, we get giant walking cardboard box monsters.

The hell?

I *facepalm*'d at every single person who is complaining that this isn't on console.

I really am.

It's pathetic.

So do you think this might be Square trying to cash in on Monster Hunter's success? I suppose I'd need to see more of the game, but it sounds like a possibility.

So that makes 4 completely new DS IPs from Square-Enix - The World Ends With You, Sigma Harmonics, Nanochi no Game, and Bahamut of Blood.

Wow.

This is Square tapping out intricate solos on my heart-strings, laughing maniacally: Hey, want to fight with all your favorite FF characters? Go buy a PSP. Want to know what this badass website with amazing art and music is hyping? A DS game.

If 69% of all portable gaming is done at home... why the FUCK can't we get these games on consoles... I would even accept them as PS3 releases(though I don't even own one, and my 2nd box went RRoD 20 mins ago)... handhelds in these cases, in my opinion, are unacceptable.

Sorry, 79%... adding 10% more weight to my argument.

It won't be long before ALL Japanese titles are made on handhelds anyways, the console market is dead there. Outside of PS2 anyways. Not that I really have a problem with it, the little screenshots show a fine looking battle with a giant colossus thing. I think this just makes what and when the genuine next round of handheld systems will be VERY interesting.

@Gen: Lul, don't tell me you pay attention to anything he says?
