Capcom Says "The Dead Walk Again" and 5 Dead Rising 2 Screenshots
zgerhard | 4:45 PM on 02.09.2009 9 comments

There is now officially going to be a sequel to Dead Rising. Xbox 360 exclusivity? Forget that! Sony has nabbed a piece of the party blubber on this one as Dead Rising 2 will be available for 360, PS3, and PC. I predict no one will really care about the PC release, though.

Dead Rising 2 will be a sequel in which the zombie virus from the first Dead Rising was contained very well and spread throughout the country. I wonder who from the Department of Homeland Security got fired for this mix up? Being able to contain a cliche zombie outbreak should be top on the list of "required skills" for applicants! There's just too many zombie outbreaks all over the place for this skill to go untested!

Capcom's press release mentions that they will bring the franchise to an all new level of "zombie killing fun" with tens of thousands of zombies. They also mention a new "gambling paradise" called Fortune City. Obviously, a casino of sorts and I really hope I can wield shot girls' as giant sledgehammers (you know, with augmented breasts and all) to beat the zombies to a pulp. There is the promise of a bunch of new in-game objects to be able to use as weapons, which (in my humblest of humble opinions) is the biggest appeal to this franchise. There are just so many zombie games out, so the "use anything to kill zombies" really makes this title stand out from the rest. I mean, the Resident Evils, House of the Dead 2 and 3 and soon to be Overkill, Dead Space (kind of zombie... alien life form takes over dead bodies... just like a zombie), so it is nice to see that I can use a gumball machine instead of spraying bullets.

A roulette table? That's wicked, bro! I still want to see juggernaut breasted women... although, looking at the screenshots, we will be able to slay all the scantily clad women who walk around and perform silly dances and such. Oh, casinos are so much fun!

I am somewhat excited with this announcement, even though I was not particularly a huge fan of the first Dead Rising. Every new "big title" game that comes out has slowly been raising the bar for everyone else, so I am hoping Capcom really delivers on its promise to bring this franchise to an all new level. From the screenshots, I must say, the graphics are looking on-par with today's current generation games!

I hope there's some kind of like "free play" mode where you can just fuck around with any weapon and no restrictions. That's what everyone wanted to do immediately in the first game, before getting held back by the save points and inventory and all that.

It'll probably be DLC.

As much as co-op is the big trend these days, I'd love to see it in this game :)

@puppy licks

Co-op would be amazing for this game. I agree with you.

Awesome! Having just beat the original Dead Rising for the first time, I am PUMPED for the next one. And these new shots of the next game, God they look great! People could just keep c-blogging new ones and I'd be happy.

 about me

My name is Zak. I am a (struggling) writer.

I am a relic of the golden glory days of PC gaming, yet I am only 23 years old. I have been tinkering with computers since I was only 6, playing Lemmings on an old DOS machine and a paper floppy. I've had an interest in this tech ever since I was born because my dad was a stay at home dad (sissy) and also a computer programmer. I want to be a writer more than anything. There is nothing better than sitting at a coffee shop with a notebook and headphones blaring trance. If I could make a living at this, I would kiss your feet.

I was born and raised in Sweden and moved to the states when I was a little bit older so I have a very different view of life than my fellow Americans. This sometimes causes conflicts of interest. For instance, baseball is boring to me but put on hockey and I'm glued to the TV. I also like socialist ideas and will preach them for as long as I can. I also believe you should take care of yourself, your friends, your community, your planet... you get the idea. We all live here, we are all in this together, there's no reason we shouldn't all chip in. I am against gated communities.

I find video games, movies, books, and laying on the beach (even though I am capable of sunburn in the winter) to be the best things on Earth and I try to do a little of it all in between my daily rut managing a much hated specialty video game retail store. 5 cool points for those who can guess which one that is.
