As we all know, Fallout 3's DLC will be an Xbox exclusive. Fair enough - the Xbox gets a lot of exclusive DLC because of its incredibly popular LIVE service so this is not all too surprising, but nonetheless upsetting.
Bethesda says that despite the exclusive DLC for the Xbox, they don't feel like they are shortchanging PS3 owners. They say that the 100 or so hours of gameplay and the many different endings will have PS3 owners questing and playing a whole bunch, so the game is still worth the $60. How are PS3 owners not getting shortchanged? Bethesda is offering a couple of extra hours of gameplay for Xbox owners and telling people with a PS3 that they'll just have to suck it up, or get the Xbox version. And then say that they aren't getting shortchanged! Talk about making the customer feel like he's getting laid when he's actually getting effed.
Giving PS3 owners a crack at the DLC, in my opinion, would boost PS3 sales of the game by a bit. Gamers would get the privilege to pick the version of the game for the system that they enjoy using the most - not what system will have the extra content. Some people prefer the PS3 - why should they be shortchanged a quasi-expansion pack because of their preference? I don't think the cost of porting the DLC to the PS3 version is that much that it can't be done.
I am a PS3 owner and I am outraged more that Bethesda does not acknowledge that they are indeed shortchanging us. The Xbox exclusive DLC is one thing and yes, very upsetting, I find myself getting more upset that Bethesda is trying to smooth things over by saying we aren't getting the short end of the stick because the game is already so vast. Well, if the Xbox users are getting more, we are getting the short end of the damned stick!
Well, if you have both consoles then the choice will be easy. But there's enough in the game to not really worry about the DLC though. Look at Oblivion, do you really need the lame DLC/horse armor to enjoy the game more?
Still, it's a shame they can't manage this stuff for both platforms.
I just don't agree that 1) they can't swing the DLC both ways and 2) they are playing it off as if it's no big deal that only half of the gamers out there will get their hands on this.
If I were to buy it, I'd get the PS3 version. I don't buy DLC at all. Yet, if I did buy dlc, I actually still think I'd buy the PS3 version so that I wouldn't burn up the 360.
Well, I don't know what Sony is doing in this cases but either company can make the best offer for limited content. I don't think it's like a lifetime exclusivity contract.
@zgerhard:
Yeah that's how it goes. Microsoft pays for the extra content to be exclusive to their platform. That being said it's good that Bethesda are confident in their game to say it's still great without the DLC.
Look at the GTA4 DLC. Did it shift more 360s than PS3s? not really. Did gamers who own both consoles sway towards the 360 version? probably, but how many of those people will still go back to the game, pay for and play the DLC?
I'm still deciding which console to get Fallout 3 for but the exclusive DLC is only a small factor in my decision.
I think I'll wait for the GOTY PS3 version so I can get the DLC included... I'm still pissed that I paid so much for the 360 version of Oblivion + Shivering Isles + DLC. And it still gets DREs.
This is a game that should be played on PC anyway.
But i can understand a lot of people have old or weak PCs & the console is their only choice. In that case just get it for 360. If you don't have a 360 then unfortunately you'll have to get it on the PS3. It does suck that people who's only choice is PS3 wont get access to the DLC, but it's the way it is. If you get it for PS3 that's sort of like telling Bethesda they just lost out on a DLC sale, you can think of it like that if you want. Money talks.
1.08 million people getting snubbed is not a joke. I'm not buying these guys' games ever again after this crap.. dude, I can only get to level 20?! but Xbox and PC users get the content plus a higher level cap...
Yeah, whatever, Bethesda. Thanks for fucking ripping me off.
I know which company is going to be blackballed by me in the comming year...
Unless they figure a way to get us the DLC.
Level 20 level cap is BULLSHIT and it's a DEMO at best.
I would take what this fucking douche bag said to me better if I could level past 20...
But now I'm being told I can never take my guy past level 20, and I'm to "like the fact I paid full price for a game that will no longer be supported because it doesn't have the right companies logo on the box"

I am a relic of the golden glory days of PC gaming, yet I am only 23 years old. I have been tinkering with computers since I was only 6, playing Lemmings on an old DOS machine and a paper floppy. I've had an interest in this tech ever since I was born because my dad was a stay at home dad (sissy) and also a computer programmer. I want to be a writer more than anything. There is nothing better than sitting at a coffee shop with a notebook and headphones blaring trance. If I could make a living at this, I would kiss your feet.
I was born and raised in Sweden and moved to the states when I was a little bit older so I have a very different view of life than my fellow Americans. This sometimes causes conflicts of interest. For instance, baseball is boring to me but put on hockey and I'm glued to the TV. I also like socialist ideas and will preach them for as long as I can. I also believe you should take care of yourself, your friends, your community, your planet... you get the idea. We all live here, we are all in this together, there's no reason we shouldn't all chip in. I am against gated communities.
I find video games, movies, books, and laying on the beach (even though I am capable of sunburn in the winter) to be the best things on Earth and I try to do a little of it all in between my daily rut managing a much hated specialty video game retail store. 5 cool points for those who can guess which one that is.

How many hours of gameplay is the expansion adding? If the game is 100 hours and the DLC is 5 I don't think it's really anything to get upset about.
Agreed.
I just don't agree that 1) they can't swing the DLC both ways and 2) they are playing it off as if it's no big deal that only half of the gamers out there will get their hands on this.
It's not Bethesda's fault, it's Sony that doesn't pay for exclusive content like Microsoft does.
If I were to buy it, I'd get the PS3 version. I don't buy DLC at all. Yet, if I did buy dlc, I actually still think I'd buy the PS3 version so that I wouldn't burn up the 360.
So they should reduce the price of the PS3 version?
Riiiiiight.
Well it would be a no brainer, since I don't own a 360 nor a PS3, but I'm buying the PC version also for the mods.
@kamikazetutor...
is that how it goes? Microsoft pays to have that content available and Sony opts out?
i own a 360, but i'll still get the PC version. the mod community will produce far more worthwhile material then the 360 DLC will provide.
Well, I don't know what Sony is doing in this cases but either company can make the best offer for limited content. I don't think it's like a lifetime exclusivity contract.
It's like Braid, it's a timed exclusive on XBLA, but its creator has stated that a PC version is very likely after that "contract" expires.

Jesus christ, some people are never happy.
You were not shortchanged because the DLC is, and always has been, a 360 exclusive, and therefore, was never intended for the PS3.
You can't lose what you never had to begin with.
/worlds smallest violin
Maybe like the Oblivion 360 DLC.
They'll come out with "Fallout 3 TGOYE" on Blu-Ray Disc.
Hence no DLC, but to rebuy the GOTYE of the game?
Yes maybe, maybe not...
I'm with Dark Travesty.
And that's the way the cookie crumbles.
I think I'll wait for the GOTY PS3 version so I can get the DLC included... I'm still pissed that I paid so much for the 360 version of Oblivion + Shivering Isles + DLC. And it still gets DREs.
just dont buy Bethesda games , one or 2 years later they'll relesae the GOTY version , with ALL THE EXPANSIONS AND DLC INCLUDED ...
i'm with naim master and others, i'll wait for the cheaper full content goty edition to but.
This is a game that should be played on PC anyway.
