It's ok, I think every PC gamer gets sudden urges to upgrade everything every now and then.
I'm holding on for SC to upgrade everything, whenever that is released.
Im waiting for the 9 series to get a DX 10 card.
Aye Im getting ready to upgrade my hardware within the next few months.
Im getting a new mobo that supports quad core / core 2 extreme / core 2 duo . has 3 pci-e 2.0 slots, and supports ddr2 AND ddr3.
So im going to upgrade to that board, get a 2.6 core 2 duo, and get ddr2 for now. Im going to keep my 7800 for now untill later this year, and then upgrade to ddr3 sometime near the end of the year as well.
But having that board..mmmm I will be set for awhile :D
I can't afford an upgrade :(
I just bought this computer from a friend and a Radeon x2900 card so I might as well wait 3 or 4 years and then put this one out on ebay.
I hate PCs. Over the holiday break I was forced to buy a new HDD (which I luckily got a great deal on at Best Buy) and a new video card 'cause both were failing. A quick $300 later and my PC still sucks by today's standards. WTF.
@B-Radicate - never buy stuff at best buy, ever. You can get parts much more cheaply off of newegg and they also have a much greater selection. Best buy just had off brand junk when it comes to video cards and usually they greatly overcharge for HDDs.
A standard like 160 gig HDD will only run you $50
If you spent $300 (assuming you didn't waste money having Geek Squad install it, that leaves you with more than enough money for something like this. Its not the most ridiculous card on the market, but it will run Crysis on Medium and TF2 on high.
I'm about to build a new PC myself. I'm just building now with an 8800GTS (g92) card, and the 780i motherboard. Plenty of room to upgrade on that board. Also going to give the E8400 from Intel a try. It's the new 45nm chip.
8800GTS is a pretty decent card, a couple gigs of ram are mandatory, and a core2duo too (or anything that has two cores, I dont want to get into details).
Hell even NewEgg over charges for their stuff. www.pricewatch.com is a great site to research the cheapest parts.
Someone please buy me a 9800. Thank you.
i hope the new G9 series fit in my mb. if they don't i'm going going for the complete overhaul. and maybe... if the 9800 costs like 700$, i'll buy two 8800GT's and have them in SLI.
@iDano84
good choice of processor my friend. their gonna take off when software takes advantage of the SSE4 technology.
XPER, perhaps you could total up the costs involved, and then compare them to what else you could buy with that money.
