The start of the affair: Nintendo 64

Ok, well this is my first monthly musing c-blog and I'm a nub to blogging in the first place so bear with me.

Ok, well the first major experience I have with games was with the nintendo 64, and it was a good one. Hopefully my story will be different then most others due to my age.

I remember the Christmas of 1996 (I was 6) and playing Power Rangers on my cousins Sega Genesis. I asked for a Nintendo 64 that year and that's all I wanted. I woke up Christmas morning and looking under my bed to find that Nintendo 64, along with one of my favorite games of all time, Diddy Kong Racing. I immediately tossed my cousins Genesis aside like a neglected chinese baby, and plugged in my N64.

I then started playing the story mode of DKR, and fell in love immediately. I think I started off playing as Pipsy and never switched. That was really the first game I had played with the depth of the graphics and gameplay, (I was used to 2d power rangers and sonic).

After a while, I then can remember purchasing at one point, the great Super Mario 64. I had tons of fun with this game and can remember playing it all day long. This was a bit of an upgrade from DKR in terms of story line. I felt a bit of a childish vendetta when trying to save Princess Peach. I had also never played a game as Mario, so this was my introduction to him, which would carry on to modern day.

Another game I can remember playing was Starfox 64. I can remember playing this game all day, beating it 3-4 times a day and sometimes with my dad. I loved all the characters and story line, as well as this being my first flying game I had played. I can remember being so obsessed, that I made a drawing of the Lylat system of a piece of poster board. This along with DKR are some of my favorite games.

I then can remember playing Super Smash Bros. at my cousins house and loving it. I could kick ass as each of my favorite Nintendo characters. I was familiar with most of the characters besides Samus and Ness due to never playing games with any of them in them. I had never played a game with Link, but saw a commercial for Ocarina of Time, and up untill SSB, I thought his name was Zelda. :D I remember playing this game along with my dad and still kicking his ass with the shitty broken Madcatz controller. Besides power rangers, this was my first major fighting game.

Last but not least in my saga of my entry into gaming, is Mario Party. I originally borrowed it from a friend, but never gave it back and told him I "lost" it. I didn't lose it, I just kept playing it and it was so addictive, as it was the first party game I had played. The gameplay of mario party was nothing I had played before. The mini-games were so fun and I felt like I was playing against my favorite nintendo characters. I loved getting stars and rolling the dice to see where I landed.

Well, that is it for my "The start of the affair:" blog. I hope you enjoyed my dive into each main genre of my favorite N64 games. I enjoyed writing it and hope to write more in the future!

I didn't see any mention of Goldeneye. That had to be the best FPS on the N64. Did you get to enjoy it's greatness?

Yes, but later on. It wasn't one of my first experiences though...

I'm glad you stopped thinking Link was named Zelda!
