About
Welcome to Dtoid's Friday Night Fights for Xbox 360!

FNF is a weekly, community-run event where Dtoiders get together to play videogames online! Planning starts in the forums, followed by posts here in the cblogs and on the front page on Fridays. It's easy to get involved, so why not start today?!

<-- You can read the blog for more info, but here are the basics:

How to FNF

To Play
Leave a comment in the blog or forum post with your Gamertag and which games from the schedule you want to play. More people will show up if they know other people are playing, so speak up!

Send an Xbox LIVE friend request to the person hosting the game and let them know you're from Dtoid and you're ready to FNF!

To Host
Leave a comment in this blog or the week's forum post listing game you want to play, the time you want to play it, and your Xbox LIVE Gamertag.

Don't worry about hosting the same game or hosting a game at the same time as someone else. Instead, think of it like a movie theater; more than one game can run at the same time!

Still confused? Click here for a full guide to everything FNF!

Last week was Christmas movies, this week is TV specials. This is the last FNF before Christmas so this is the last time you're going to have to deal with me talking about Christmas specials for the last time until next year.  SO DEAL WITH IT!  The only time I get to see snow is on TV so I watch a lot of Christmas specials just to see snow.

I've always been partial to the older Christmas specials.  The Grinch, Rudolph, Frosty and all the other poorly animated or lame stop-motion animation shows that I grew up watching were awesome.  Maybe it's only because I grew up watching them and I have nostalgia glasses on but compared to the current day specials, there seems to be something missing.  I've watched a few with my son that are OK, like the Phineas and Ferb Christmas special, and some that are downright terrible (that list is way too long).  There just doesn't seem to be the care that goes into the new ones; like they're only being made because they have to be made.

So like I said before, this is the last post before Christmas so I hope y'all have a Merry Christmas!  Hopefully with all the Xbox One sales that went on for the past month, the Xbox FNF will see some new life in the coming weeks.  In the mean time, Hanukkah is going strong right now too so Happy Hanukkah too!

This has always been my favorite time of year.  Every year I always watch the same holiday themed movies and the classic TV shows.  I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff.

Two of my favorite Christmas movies are A Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation.  They are two completely different movies that center around Christmas and are both great in their own right.  If you have not yet seen either of them, don't play games tonight.  Go watch them.  Now.  Anyway, I always have the hardest time picking out which movie is my favorite.  I would have to say A Christmas Story because I remember it makes me remember what Christmas was like as a kid.  On the other hand, as a dad, Christmas Vacation reminds me of what Christmas is like now.  Plus it has so many great memorable moments.

Let me know in the comments what your vote is; or if you have something else you want to bring up that I didn't.  Either way, just have fun.

I can't believe it has been a whole month since my last FNF post.  Sorry for the slacking on it but I have a good reason: My wife is pregnant.  Unfortunately when she does get pregnant (we're having a boy again) she also gets extremely ill and has pretty much been in bed since the early portion of October.  So that means I have been working things the single dad way with our son now and it hasn't left a lot of time for much else.  So sorry again about the blog being neglected for a few weeks but from now on I SHOULD be back on track.

In other news, yes, it's Black Friday.  There's a few good game deals out there but only one or two things I'm interested in but don't really have to have.  I'd pick up Dragon Age if that was on sale but, sadly, it isn't.

I hope y'all had a good Thanksgiving (if you're in the US) and a safe weekend if y'all go out and brave the shopping masses.

Also, don't bother looking for any 3DS consoles; Your FNF Manager Bill Plat bought them all.

Do y'all remember that old saying that Halloween was created by the candy companies?  Well, I blew $30 on candy last night so that may be possible but I have a new theory: Disney bought Halloween.

You see, Disney bought Marvel, Star Wars, ABC, ESPN,and now Halloween.  Now for Halloween, all the kids are Marvel superheroes or Frozen characters with a Storm/Clone Trooper or a Darth Vader thrown in there every now and then.  I would say it's not out of the realm of possiblilty that Disney secretly took Halloween over to sell Disney themed costumes.

You know it makes sense.  And that's the scary thing.

I've had a hell of a past two weeks (More on that next time).  I realized on Thurday that I forgot to put up the forum post for FNF.  So I'm sorry to the guys that do host games for getting it up late.  Won't happen again.

So since I didn't get the post up in time, if there's something you want to host, let me know in the comments and I'll update it before I head in to work!

So Destiny, huh? It was one of the most anticipated games of this year and has a massive budget behind it and, so far, the reviews have been average. I've enjoyed my time with it but I definetly see the flaws in it. Living in its shadow was a game that I was interested in but it seemed to fly below the radar during this past year: Shadows of Mordor.

That game released the other day and it has been swimming in great press, absolutely blowing Destiny away. Granted, they are two completely different games so you can't compare the scores but I think it surprised a lot of people who weren't expecting it. I'll definitely pick it up around the holidays and give it a go.

As far as the Xbox FNF goes, we're a little light on the games (again) this week. If there's anything you want to host and you didn't get to make it into the forums, post in the comments!
