I agree. Sega better shape up soon.
Sega sucks now, and this most likely isn't changing anytime soon. They still have dev teams that are somewhat capable so there are occasional good games, but for the most part they have become another EA. Pumping out sequels and spending as little as possible on games to try and maximize profits.
In short, they suck.
Phantom Dust was such an awesome game. Supposedly the creator wants to do another one but it's not up to him.
My Sega wish list? Hmmm... Zillion for the DS? Shining Force, as a strategy roleplaying game, for any system. Maybe make it crazy pretty 2D like Odin's Sphere but I'd be happy with a 3D one as well.
How about a moody, dark reimagining of the Streets of Rage franchise, where everyone swears all the time? Wait, no, that's a terrible idea.
What about a moody, dark reimagining for Alex Kidd, where he has guns?
Or a moody, dark reimagining of Fantasy Zone where Opa-Opa's family has all been murdered, and he's out for revenge in barely-rated-M murder cutscenes at a sex club? In flower land.
@Koobert
Rofl on the third idea.
The Phantom Dust guy said he wants to but yeah its not up to him. He imagined a DS Phantom Dust also.
I blame Sega's descent into badness on the Sega-Sammy merger. I heard it cause a lot of problems for most/all of the R&D Teams (moved around, sometimes closed down, many lay-offs).
I was thinking on the way home from work how much I would love to see a streets of rage sequel/remake on 360/ps3 BUT IN 2D. there is a serious lack of 2d games on the next gen systems, streets of rage with A+ grade 2d animation for sprites and amazing details that look amazing and amazing!
Id buy it.
also, what happened to smilebit? what were the games they made? the jet set games and gunvalkyrie?
I guess I'll chuck my two cents worth here..I personally feel Sega's demise is a direct link of the death of the Arcades. Most of the games we loved on the Dreamcast were of their Arcade division. Games like House of the Dead, Crazy Taxi, Ferrari, Virtua Fighter, Virtual On,,I mean there were a shitload of them. Now I just think it's harder across the board to make new successful IPs then in years past.
I gotta say though when they do put something new and fresh out there..it just doesn't sell.( We the hardcore may buy it but like we're learning from the Wii..we are the minority.)Games like Shenmue, Seaman..Gunvalkyre and Panzor Dragoon Orta don't draw in the casual.
Damn I miss Smilebit too.
P.S. Yakusa is coming to the PS3. The trailer is out and looks pretty good.
They're in hiding with Osama.
phantasy star 4 was the game that got me into RPG's..dunno if thats a good thing or not but the game had a great story...even if the people that dubbed it couldn't spell some of the planets right...or consistently...i mean..Palma...Parma...wtf mate?
Sega's demise was more so Sony's fault. i would agree arcade ports to consoles were Sega's cream, Sony's ability to quickly grab KEY 3rd party exclusives and its ability to seperate itself from the mainstream console bickering between Sega and Nintendo allowed Sony to secure a gainful foothold on the market. Plus....the adds for FF7 were purdy.
Most recent Sega games are almost very good... but instead of giving them a few more months of polish to fix the issues, they rush them out. It's a real shame.
I know about Yakuza being on PS3, I just want a 360 version. :O
