Hmmm... Kotick needs to take a Human Resources 101 course! It's much more profitable to retain employees rather than the costs inherent with hiring new employees. The best way to retain employees is to have happy employees.

The problem is that most studios need cash that only publishers like Activision can provide for the cost of modern game development and don't have much choice.
The power is very much in the hands of gamers to change things, but the average game buyer doesn't know or care to know any better. They'll just go out and mindlessly buy that latest Call of Duty or Guitar Hero because the TV and their bro's told them to.
The games industry is probably the least creative 'creative industry' but people WANT that. That's what they buy into. I think the guy is an asshole too but, collectively, we are the people who are telling the Bobby Kotick's of the industry "This is the way to make the most money". Gamers simply don't buy creativity.
