Alright, I'm just going to dive right into this one. I suck at Photoshop. Like, I'm not good at it. At all. As evidenced by my extensive portfolio of sucking (there, I did the blow job joke for you) I can only add text to photos, while occasionally adding strokes and shadows to already beautifully produced text fonts. But unfortunately, without using the magnetic selection and distort tools, thats about the best I can do. But I want to be better.
So I need your help, Destructoid. I need you guys to help me by, if possible, helping me get better at Photoshop. Don't email me a step-by-step tutorial on how to draw a specific picture, but if possible, link me to any tutorials or any sort of book, or ANYTHING at all that you use to learn how to use Photoshop or even just to create digital images. I feel like pursuing a career in digital/graphic design in a way, and just anything that could be used to be better at this not only for myself, but for a career, would be just great.
Now I'll step away from the mic to give the tl;dr version for Kif. Give me graphic design (Photoshop, preferrably) books tutorials.

I use this site all the time, its got tons of stuff on it for every program imagineable
also I'd recommend actually getting books on photoshop, they will teach you a lot about the basics
So I read it all the way through again just for you electro. Don't worry, be happy.
I don't know shit about Photoshop though, so I'm useless here. I use Pootato for some stuff I do, but that's it really.

I'm in about the same boat, but I can change colors and tints, as well as transform stuff pretty good. Need to know that?
Personally, I'm trying to tile an animated .gif and then crop some of that, so I can make a blog banner with a moving background. And all of that needs to be in the back layer. If anybody can help with that (Or recommend a better program for the job) I'm all ears.

also some really great quick effects tutorials
If you want to learn how to use Photoshop, do what I did, take a paying job for it. You learn shit a lot quicker when you're under a deadline, and anyone that's ever accepted a complicated graphic design job will tell you, you bust your ass to make shit look good.
Granted, you'll still have to read the tutorials, but shit will make sense if you're under a deadline...
TRUST ME.
I cut my teeth on Illustrator for the job I hold today. I didn't know dick about it, still got hired and now I use it constantly.
True story.
My previous job was training people how to edit video, do motion graphics, design DVD's (!), and do graphic design for print and video. I never once cracked open a single book on Premiere, Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, After Effects, or Combustion. I had to for Avid because Avid sucks dick. AVID SUCKS DICK. DO NOT BELIEVE ANYONE PEDDLING YOU SHIT THAT SAYS OTHERWISE. THEY THINK THEY'RE MEGA-HOLLYWOOD PEOPLE, but in reality hold $10 an hour internships for a living.
If you want to learn After Effects, my place to start for total beginners is Creativecow.

They have REALLY simple tutorials that don't overwhelm. Handing someone a copy of AFX is like handing you the keys to an aircraft carrier. You know you can do cool shit with it, but you don't know what thing does what. It's really intimidating at first.
To learn After Effects, watch TV and find something that isn't strictly just video that you'd like to emulate.

I did these by watching something on TV and copying it's look outright in many cases.

I did this one in Combustion and Premiere after watching a bunch of old Disney educational shorts.
Doesn't seem to hard to do, Lemon...
smaller, next time, I promise...
Lemon, check your email.
The rainbows are all yours. The haloes, though, are all minez.
