[I've used this pic before, but I like it] Sony is going to sell off not only it's PS3 Cell production facilities but also now the R&D division that accompanies it. Although Toshiba and IBM will be continuing the research to try to utilise 45nm, 32nm or even smaller manufacturing processes with the Cell architecture, Sony have confirmed they are not having any part of it. They will be pulling all funding from the project and instead concentrating on image sensors. Sony execs have said this is all part of their asset light cunning plan to essentially sell off both arms so they can run faster. Yutaka Nakagaw (Sony's executive deputy president, whatever that means) said that “Manufacturing cutting-edge packaged IC chips is not considered as important as it once was.” (via gamedaily (via sst))

That Schizo ad campaign " It's not just a Video Game Console " has gone where? We ( Sony ) happened to realize we don't need to talk anymore time, has arrived.
