About Me
OMG GAMES.

I'm a student in Manchester over here in the always sunny UK. I can juggle, like cats and can't say the alphabet backwards very fast.

The Podcastle is sexy, listen to it.

Games have become a backward-looking medium. Because game designers rely on the language of cinema, they have not sufficiently developed a new form of storytelling based on the language of video games. - Daniel Radosh 28/09/07

Goldeneye isn't coming to your Xboxs, doesn't love you.
wardrox | 7:48 AM on 02.25.2008 25 comments

Once again MS have caused floods of tears to erupt from optimistic Goldeneye fans and have dashed hopes the game will be coming to Xbox Live in the near future. Talking to EuroGamer, MS Game Studios said:

The story in Xbox World 360 is based entirely on rumour and speculation. Unfortunately, we were never contacted by the publication to confirm information or participate in the story in any way, as we would have confirmed that we do not have the necessary rights to release GoldenEye on Xbox Live Arcade.

I guess this puts the speculation to bed, again. Will this be the end of the road for the proverbial game of kinda-shitty, possibly inevitable ping-pong? Probably not, but for now at least you will have to put your sad face back on.

Do Nintendo and Rare share the rights or something like that?

Bummer.

blah. probably has more to do with the bond license.

@burglarize

Nintendo published it for N64, so they technically own the rights to the game, while Rare likely owns the code. Microsoft owns Rare, so MS owns the code. Sony owns the Bond license, so they have final say on whether or not, and how much it costs, to put Bond in a new game. So once we can get all three of them to agree on how much it'll cost to get it done, it won't happen.

I'd say use the code and replace the models and audio but then it loses the nostalgic appeal, and those looking for goldeneye won't even know about it

"So once we can get all three of them to agree on how much it'll cost to get it done, it won't happen."

that sentence was perfectly valid, because once a cost is settled on Microsoft won't want to do it.

Is there a blog up there? According to Jim (haha, I made a funny) Sterling we are not to read WaRdRoX's blog at all costs!

Fuck you, Excremento. Don't you dare reference the abortion of a show According to Jim. Jim Belushi is no John Belushi. And why the hell is that show still on the air?

Actually, bloodylip, Sony only owns the movie rights. Activision recently bought the game rights from EA a year or so ago.

So it would actually hafta be an agreement between MS, Activision, and Nintendo.

Whoever hasta decide, though, doesn't matter. It likely will not happen.

Perfect Dark was everything golden eye was without the bond. EXACT SAME. heck I like the weapons in PD better.

The biggest issue is whether Microsoft pays Nintendo a one-time fee for the right to publish the game or whether Microsoft pays Nintendo continuing royalties on all sales. At least, I heard that somewhere on the internets. Take it with a grain of salt.

Either way, I think that if Goldeneye or Perfect Dark were released, people would end up disappointed, because frankly, the games haven't aged well. (FPS games rarely do, in my opinion.) I tried playing Goldeneye multiplayer at a friend's house over three years ago, and I was surprised at how archaic and outdated it was. I remember loving it when it was new, but frankly, it's been done better.

All this talk of Perfect Dark makes me wonder how the multiplayer on Perfect Dark Zero turned out.

I tend to agree with Necros, the only way I'd be able to enjoy Goldeneye 64 again is if I were warped back in time to when I was a 16 year old pothead. And I have no desire to relive those days, thank you very much.

GoldenEye isn't GoldenEye without play it on a fat-ass N64 controller
(is it big? i don't know, i was a lot younger at the time, hence my hands were smaller)
