Before I start: fanboys, back the fuck off. Read what I have to say, then come up with your witty, horse cock filled response. Also, the first person to accuse me of being a fanboy myself will... well ... your an idiot.
The above graph comes from VGChartz and shows the hardware sales of the big three, with their launch dates aligned. I, as well as many other people, have been watching this closely. It's very useful to see how they each stack up. The fact that the PS3 has (almost) matched the 360 for hardware sales isn't my problem here. It's when I read comments saying the two systems are on par that I get pissy. They are not even close. The 360 has sold at least twice as many consoles. The fact the PS3 has sold as many as the 360 did a year ago is not important at this point. It would only make them equal if the 360 had not been so successful this year. If the graph for the 360 had shown signs of slowing, that there was a chance the PS3 could catch up, then I would give it to you. If this graph carries on, there will always be more 360s out there than PS3s, it's as simple as that. This is the graph you should be looking at if you want to get anal:
This graph shows the 360 (green) has actually increased the gap between itself and the PS3 (red) over the past year.

I think it's a little early to tell. I mean, if Halo 3 is any indication, that's what makes a big difference - old franchises.
We don't really know how the PS3 will fare when its old franchises come out. So far, the fact it's been doing so good is kind of surprising, considering what a shitty game selection it has (okay, it's not even shit, it's almost non existant. I don't think it has 10 full good games).
But Halo 3 moved quite a bunch of systems, and was the last thing that was going to move the 360s off the shelf with a storm.
PS3 still has its MGS4 and FFXIII established old franchises to come out. I'd say when those are released (in the year 2952), the numbers should get kinda close. I mean, the 360 does have a full year ahead of the PS3, and the PS3 is like the fat dog in the race, the most expensive and the most undeserving console for your money, but only right now.
If the Wii's numbers are any indication (I mean look at that, a $250 price point and it already beat the 360 - and I don't think we can say it has all that many good through and through games either) then it's possible we could see a kind of a tie between the 360 or PS3.
Eventually. Like, in the distant future. I'd say you're right though, this console generation will be known for Microsoft kicking Sony's ass for six out of the seven years it'll last.
also 600 bucks
I hear that giving blowjobs does wonders for your income.
Wierd that's the same thing my mom was saying.
A hobby for fanboys no doubt.
I would assume the PS3's early success is due to name recognition and the promise of games like MGS4, Killzone 2, and Final Fantasy XIII.
And at least a small part of the success of the system is blind loyalty from fanboys.
Just because we point out that the PS3 hasn't done as well as it could/should have, it doesn't mean we WANT it to fail. I own a 360, and prefer it at this point. Guess what? I also have a PS3. Uncharted is the best game I've played since Gears of War.
I agree that looking at these numbers is not an automatic "Fanboy" badge. Still you have to admit that the tone of your post, Wardrox, is facetious at best. I agree that the PS3 is in a different position over the next few years. That position is behind Nintendo and MS (in that order!). What I see happening is that Sony realizes that it's in the shit hole and starts giving users what they want. Just look at the AVI container (Divx/Xvid) support that is confirmed for PS3 and is only rumored for the 360.
They've lowered the price of the dev kits. IMO, they should practically give them away. They are also rolling out better developer tools too. This can only help the situation with the games.
I have a PS3. I don't have a 360. I wish the 3rd party developers would spend a little more time to get the PS3 versions of their games to look at least like the 360 versions. It's just laziness on their part. Especially given the fact that if they did it once they would then have a team on staff that could help optimize code.
I really don't want the PS3 to fail cause I don't see myself getting a 360 at this point.
Sorry if I came across as a fanboy :(
